		I'm no fan of the Police, but I did go to Birdland a couple of years back to see Andy Summers in a trio, and he was quite good, playing Monk and Mingus compositions, with a few originals as well.
		Sting 'could have been a contender' in some way or other in the jazz field (Dream of the Blue Turtles was quite jazzy-y and utilised some excellent jazz musicians) but he still adheres to pop.

		I missed the whole AMG thread before it got locked, but I did want to say a few words in Andy Summers' defense.
		Andy Summers is an excellent pop musician and a fair jazz player, but it's daft for AMG to grade him higher than Jim Hall for example.
		So, ok, Summers isn't Hall or Montgomery or McLaughlin or Metheny but I would give him a bit of credit for trying and also possibly giving more exposure to jazz and some good stabs at some standards by Mingus and Monk.
