		ANGEL HEART gets off to a decidedly tragic start—as the story begins, a professional killer by the code name "Glass Heart" jumps off a building, stricken with remorse over the people she has killed.
		While Ryo still factors in heavily in the story, the main focus is on Glass Heart as she struggles to cope with the conflict between her training and the kind-hearted voice in her heart.
		As Glass Heart tries to come to terms with the persona inside, the crime syndicate that once employed the female killer is gearing up for an all-out street war in the heart of Shinjuku.

		ANGEL HEART ($10) is a very intriguing film about the nature of good and evil, played against the backdrop of a film noir detective story.
		Angel’s fortunes seem to take a turn for the better when a high priced law firm contacts Harry about doing some investigative work for one of their clients.
		ANGEL HEART is framed very close to 1.85:1 and the compositions appear balanced, without anything missing from the edges of the image.

		Angel Heart deals with common literary themes and matters of the human condition such as the soul, identity, the human capacity for good and evil, justice and religion in a comparative way to classic works of literature.
		Parker uses repeated scenes with the heart as a central image (such as the implied ritual in the hotel room) and the sound of heartbeats to convey this symbolism; while Conrad places a few subtle references in the text that refer to the heart of the Congo, where Kurtz resides, as the locus of evil.
		Angel focuses on looking for perversity in others (as he often does for a living) to avoid seeing it in himself, and the viewer finds out just how much he has to deny by the revealing final scene.

		Harry Angel is a drunken low-rate detective, who is assigned by the eccentric Louis Cyphre to locate a once famous crooner by the name of Johnny Favourite.
		One would not credit Angel with neither intelligence nor detective skills, but he is in fact quiet an observant detective - the sequence with the ball-point pen reference still impresses me. It is also pretty obvious for most viewers that Louis Cyphre is the Devil.
		As Angel investigates Favourite, he is drawn more and more into a world of sorcery and demons, until, at the end of his journey, realizing that he and Favourite is the same person, breaks down, sobbing, desperately clinging to this identity, not realizing that he has lost not only his sanity, but also his soul.
