Angela Nathalie Gossow (born November 5, 1975) is a death metal vocalist from Cologne, Germany.
Despite the traditional bloody image of performers engaged in metal activities, Angela Gossow is, in fact, a vegan.
Angela has recieved vocal coaching from Melissa Cross, and mentions (on the Live Apocalypse DVD) that a good breathing technique was one of the most important things she learned.

She replaced original vocalist Johan Liiva a few years back, meaning that Gossow had to fill the shoes of a male singer in the already well-established band.
Angela was writing some of the lyrics and I was writing some of the lyrics and they were going in a similar direction, then we sort of just enhanced them.

Review: "Arch Enemy: Doomsday Machine" - Sea of Tranquility - The Web Destination for Progressive Music!
What's great about Angela's vocals are that they have developed an emotional sense that she hasn't had previously, and you can clearly understand her garbled screams this time around, although they are no less lethal.
Gossow's vocals here are pure evil, sounding like they used some vocal effects, especially during the mellower sections of the song, which I don't think were all that necessary.
Angela Gossow's vocals are slighlty toned down; she doesn't sing very low as she did on the previous two discs, but therefore her vocals are easier to follow and let the lyrics come out better.

As previously reported, Arch Enemy vocalist Angela Gossow forced the band to cancel their live performances for the better part of last year, when the frontwoman was diagnosed with cancer-causing nodules on her vocal chords.
In a recent interview with Hard Radio, Arch Enemy guitarist and founder said Gossow is ready to perform again and is operating at 100 percent.
Angela has been doing this since 1991, in underground death bands in Germany, just going from being a kid screaming in somebody's basement to doing shows and promoting a band, but she's never really known what the hell she's been doing [laughs].

One issue some (silly) people might have with Angela taking over from Johan is whether she could sing in as low a register as the Swede noted by some for the low-end virtues of his voice.
Angela Gossow herself is similarly unconcerned with comments made by a few unenlightened individuals.
Angela may not be afraid of Arch Enemy's crowds, but one wonders whether Mike Amott is afraid of her influence on the focus of the band's press coverage.

, has mostly focused on their then-new lead singer, Angela Gossow, the woman who demonstrated that fans in a traditionally macho genre can get just as excited over a female-fronted band and that producing guttural, demonic growls (yeah, they're one of those bands) has absolutely nothing to do with balls.
Because of the fascination over this last point, Gossow has been one of the only vocalists to shed much light on the art and the science of the growl, explaining in numerous interviews the finer points of breathing and volume control required to produce a growl without destroying your speaking voice and vocal cords.
Gossow happens to be a good one: Her tone is consistent, her phrasing precise, and her ability to enunciate clearly while growling is nearly unmatched.

 WREKage Reviews: Atlanta's Metal Radio
It was on Wages that the world was introduced to Gossow, whose raunchy growl and electric stage presence during live shows quickly garnered her a legion of fanboys and helped thrust Arch Enemy into the national metal consciousness.
Now normally lyrics aren't even an issue for a metal album because they're impossible to decipher in the first place, but this album has some of the corniest couplets this side of the crappy poetry you used to write to try to convince girls you were "sensitive" back in high school.
Angela's unique growl is both a blessing and a curse, as it's cool to actually have a frontwoman who can growl with the big boys and still enunciate clearly, but like most women it sucks that we actually have to hear what's coming out of her mouth.

Gossow can growl with the best of them sounding like a somewhat more guttural Jeff Walker [ex-Carcass], one of my all time favorites, mixed in with a bit of early Chuck Schuldiner [Death, Control Denied].
Not only is she as good as the boys, she's probably better than a lot of them, as she possesses the ability to be harsh yet understandable at the same time, proving that one can be brutal yet still enunciate.
Gossow shows what she can do for a death metal band as well as what she can do for tight fl leather, which is a lot.

Surprisingly, there was little denigration of Gossow's gender, considering that she was entering a scene that, from the outside, seems overwhelm-ingly masculine.
But Gossow says the outfit is happy to straddle both worlds, evoking all of its influences and providing something singular in the process.
She concedes that it can overshadow the music in the press, but points out that the vocalist is almost always the member that writers want to talk to, anyway.
