  Angelo Dundee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Angelo Merena (born 1923), better known in the boxing world as Angelo Dundee, is a boxing trainer who has managed 15 world boxing champions, among them, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Jose Napoles, Jimmy Ellis, Carmen Basilio and Luis Rodriguez.
Dundee travelled around the world with Ali, and he was the key strategist in all of Ali's fights, which also included wins over Archie Moore, Floyd Patterson Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Ken Norton, and, later on, Leon Spinks.
Dundee was accused by Foreman of loosening the ring ropes before his 1974 The Rumble in the Jungle fight with Ali, to help Ali win the fight, but Foreman himself has later retracted from those comments.

I remember Angelo Dundee as the trainer of Sugar Ray Leonard when Leonard beat the legendary Marvelous Marvin Hagler in 1987 to capture the world middleweight crown.
Leonard had come out of a five-year retirement, listened to every word that Angelo Dundee told him and went on to steal a split decision over Hagler in 12 rounds that stunned the world but not Angelo Dundee.
Dundee kept telling Leonard in the corner during that classic Leonard-Hagler fight.

They are people who never cease to amaze me. While the greats like Angelo Dundee, Eddie Shaw, Eddie Futch, Emmanuel Steward and my father Gerry, will admit that there is a degree of luck involved with regards fighters, they all possess a quality that most boxing folk can never boast.
As a fighter I learned just how important the trainer is. I realised that it was best for me to have a guy in the corner who knew me like I was his son, which fortunately was the case when I was guided by my father for part of my career, and by Eddie Shaw.
When I was young I only ever knew of Angelo Dundee and that was only because he was in Mohammed Ali’s corner.

Every boxing fan knows who legendary trainer Angelo Dundee is. But few people today know who Angelo's brother Chris is. A promoter and manager since 1928, the boxing Icon that was Chris Dundee died Monday at the age of 91 at a Forida rest home.
By then, the Dundee's were no longer involved in the second story gym that was razed in 1993.
Angelo visited Chris on a regular basis at the rest home.
