In fact noted French chemist and winemaker Angelo Mariani brought out a Bordeaux in 1863 called Vin Mariani which relied heavily on mixing leaves from the coca plant with red wine.
Angelo ended up as the first cocaine millionaire and French wines got this unfair advantage of being regarded as having a lot more body in them and a certain " je ne sais quoi ".
