An Ecumenical Doctrine of Angels and Its Practical Significance - Seng-Kong Tan - Theandros - Online Journal of ...
More than that, an appropriate angelology demands a radical re-evaluation of the basic anthropological presuppositions underlying all our therapeutic "sciences." Medical knowledge must be open to the possibility that pathological causes may not be limited to merely the physical or the psychic, but also the spiritual.
It is, therefore, legitimate and necessary to embrace the insights of the Pentecostal-charismatic renewal in regard to the ministries of healing (physical and "inner") and exorcism.
Situating angelology within a context of the doctrine of the imago Dei, defined Christologically, not only emphasizes its intimate connection to anthropology, but also directs the discussion eschatologically, so that a connection between the invisible and visible, heaven and earth is introduced.

Spiritual Body and Celestial Earth, the famous French Iranologue Henry Corbin [1] precedes his analysis of Zoroastrian Mazdaism with a reflection on a powerful and captivating image: that of the Earth as an angel of the utmost beauty, an eternal presence perceived and meditated through the ages.
Angelology is one of the main characteristics of the Zoroastrian Mazdaism, for which reason the latter can not be reduced to a monolithic type of monotheism; on the other hand it is also clearly distinct from pre-Zoroastrian polytheism.
The spiritual disposition of Mazdean angelology, as preserved by the Avesta, or at least the part of it which has survived, namely the psalms (Gathas) of Zarathustra and the Pahlavi commentaries and traditions, pictures a merciless battle between Ohrmazd (the Avestan Ahura Mazda) and Ahriman (the Avestan Angra Mainyu) with Earth as battlefield.

NEW DIMENSIONS IN THE STUDY OF ANGELS AND DEMONS
Because of the attention angels and the demonic are receiving in both Christian circles and in the wider society, pastors, educators, and other Christian leaders need to devote substantial time and energy to this customarily peripheral category of systematic theology.
We need both a refresher course in biblical angelology and demonology and an update on some of the most helpful and/or provocative thinking in these areas from those who work within the framework of Scripture and Christian tradition.
If we are to benefit those who desire some sanity in the midst of a bewildering sea of voices, we cannot consign this area of study to writers and popularizers not grounded on solid biblical and theological foundations.

Indeed, the bulk of Tertullian’s argument is aimed at the rejection of Platonic metaphysics and its opposition to the Christian doctrines of the Incarnation and Resurrection.
Pseudo-Dionysius was important to medieval angelology, contributing a concern for the angelic hierarchy; he may also have been the first to contend that they were pure spirits.
Nevertheless, Reformed Christology, Eucharistic theology, and angelology represent inconsistencies within their system, since those loci tend to rely implicitly on metaphysical presuppositions the Reformed believe are analytic, but are in fact synthetic a priori axioms.

Angel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Once the doctrine of monotheism was formally expressed, in the period immediately before and during the Exile (Deuteronomy 6:4-5 and Isaiah 43:10), we find angels prominent in the Book of Ezekiel.
Ezekiel, as a prophet of the Exile, may have been influenced by the hierarchy of supernatural beings in the Babylonian religion, and perhaps even by the angelology of Zoroastrianism (it is not, however, certain that these doctrines of Zoroastrianism were developed at so early a date).
Ezekiel 9 gives elaborate descriptions of cherubim (a class, or type of angels); and in one of his visions, he sees seven angels execute the judgment of God upon Jerusalem.

 HUP Reference: Late Antiquity: Excerpts
The notion that supernatural beings mediate between the divine and human realms in the capacity of "messengers" (mlk; Greek angelos) appears throughout the ancient Mediterranean world, but it is the biblical formulation of angels that underlies their complex development and definition in late antiquity.
The Dead Sea Scrolls, which offer a microcosm of sectarian Jewish angelology in the Graeco-Roman period, posit angels both as representatives of the divine presence and as models of participation in that presence.
Numerous texts and amulets show a popular idea in late antique angelology in which particular angelic names and "personalities" were invoked against particular demons and misfortunes (Tobit, Testament of Solomon, 1 Enoch).
