 Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts
The diocese covers the eastern third of Massachusetts, from the New Hampshire border in the north, to the Cape and islands in the south, and extending as far west as (but not including) Worcester County.
The diocese includes Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Essex, Norfolk, Middlesex, Nantucket, Plymouth and Suffolk Counties, and the town of Southboro in Worcester County.
Established in 1784, the Diocese of Massachusetts is the largest in the Episcopal Church, in terms of membership, with 87,448 baptized members and 58,236 communicants in 195 parishes and missions.

During his episcopate Bishop Gray effected a much-needed organization of the South African church, to which he added five new bishoprics, all carved out of the original diocese of Cape Town.
(1809-1872), first bishop of Cape Town and metropolitan of South Africa, was born at Bishop Wearmouth, Durham, and was the son of Robert Gray, bishop of Bristol.
After holding the livings of \Vhitworth, Durham, 1834-1845, and Stockton-on-Tees 1845-1847, he was consecrated bishop of Cape Town in 1847; the bishopric having been endowed through the liberality of Miss (afterwards Baroness) Burdett-Coutts.

Griswold was pleased to introduce the Most Rev. Njongonkulu Ndungane, archbishop of Cape Town representing the worldwide Anglican Communion, to speak on the issues of international debt, HIV/AIDS, and economic distress of the province of Southern Africa.
Griswold also welcomed macroeconomist Jeffrey D. Sachs, director of the Earth Institute, professor of sustainable development and of health and policy and management at Columbia University and special adviser to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
"Jeffrey Sachs' voice is one that Episcopalians more broadly need to hear," said Griswold, in introducing the macroeconomist who advises Kofi Annan on a group of poverty-alleviation initiatives under the name of Millennium Development Goals.
