American Revolutionary War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The war, which eventually widened far beyond British North America, resulted in the overthrow of British rule in the thirteen colonies and the establishment of the United States of America.
Later that year, in the last major encounter of the war, the Battle of Blue Licks, a party of Kentuckians was soundly defeated by a superior force of British regulars and Native Americans.
On November 30, 1782 preliminary peace articles were signed in Paris; the formal end of the war did not occur until the Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3, 1783 and the United States Congress ratified the treaty on January 14, 1784.

Rockets were in use in Karnataka long before the Anglo-Mysore wars.
In the Second Anglo-Mysore war, at the Battle of Pollilur (10 September 1780), Hyder and Tipu achieved a grand victory, the contributory cause being that one of the British ammunition tambrils was set on fire by Mysorean rockets.
The Hale gunpowder war rocket of the last century was invented by the Englishman William Hale (1797-1870) in 1844 as a way to eliminate the cumbersome wooden guidestick of the Congreve rocket.

SOMOS PRIMOS: Spanish Patriots in the American Revolution
In the global conflict which the American Revolution became, with Britain conducting five wars at once, in as many different theatres of operation, it is clear that Britain lost the immediate war; but, as a prudent loser must, she took careful stock of her situation.
Spain’s declaration of war on England forced the British to fight on several fronts at the same time, having to oppose the combined Franco-Spanish fleet of 90 vessels which was laying siege to Gibraltar, and (which) had even threatened to invade England itself.
In 1778, the center of gravity of the war had been transferred from the North to the South and there the fortunes of war were not exactly favoring the Colonists.

Those unfamiliar with South Asian history often find it difficult to trace the Anglo-Maratha Wars as they overlap with the Third and Fourth Anglo-Mysore Wars in which the Marathas were British allies and neutrals respectively.
The Anglo-Maratha Wars were a series of 18th century wars fought in India between the Maratha Empire and the British East India Company.
In fighting this series of Anglo-Maratha wars the East India Company in effect accelerated the disintegration of the Maratha Confederacy that was the indigenous heir to India’s military fortunes.

The Anglo-Maratha Campaigns and the Contest for India
There were three Anglo-Bengal Wars, four Anglo-Mysore Wars, at least three Anglo-Maratha Wars, as well as Anglo-Sikh and Anglo-Afghan Wars, which suggested the transference of power in South Asia was not analogous to passing the baton of governance in a relay race.
In fighting this series of Anglo-Maratha wars the EIC in effect accelerated the disintegration of the Maratha Confederacy that was the indigenous heir to India’s military fortunes.
But during the eighteenth century the South Asian extension of European wars was facilitated by overall improvements in France’s as well as Britain’s ability to organize and equip indigenous defence forces that were interchangeable with European troops in the order of battle.
