  ADW: Genetta angolensis: Information
Angolan genets occur in a narrow band across southern Africa from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean between 5 and 15 degrees S latitudes (Haltenorth and Diller 1980).
Genets have 40 teeth with a tooth formula of 3/3 1/1 4/4 2/2; the molars are broad and relatively unspecialized.
The classification of genets, particularly allocation to subspecies, is uncertain.

Genets are long, lean carnivores with a tail usually at least as long as the body.
Genets have an elongated body ranging from 16 to 24 inches (40 to 54 cm) long, with a tail 15 to 20 inches (40 to 49 cm) long, and they can weigh from two to eight pounds depending on species.

In consequence, many are faced with severe loss of habitat; several species are considered vulnerable and the Otter Civet is classified as endangered.
Furthermore, recent genetic research indicates that the Asiatic linsangs of the genus Prionodon are not true viverrids but rather more closely related to the Felidae.
The Madagascan fossa Cryptoprocta ferox was similarly long though to be a member of the Viverridae, but genetic evidence indicates that this animal is a member of an endemic Madagascan carnivore radiation related to the Herpestidae.

Pictures of the large-spotted genet|Genetta tigrina facts
The Large Spotted Genet (Genetta tigrina) is a cat-like, nocturnal member of the same Viverridae family as mongooses and thus quite a close cousin to Gus.
The Large-Spotted Genet is distributed in South Africa from the southern and eastern coast, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Northern Province and extending into neighbouring countries.
The large spotted genet is distinguished from its cousin, the small spotted genet by the dark tip at the end of its tail.

Frequently Asked Questions, right now, just about Genets
Genets tend to be long and lean, with a tail usually at least as long as the body (body ranging from 16 to 24 inches [40 to 54 cm] long, with a tail 15 to 20 inches [40 to 49 cm] long, males weighing between 5 to 10 pounds, females from 2 to 8 pounds).
Genets are still wild animals, no matter if they were born in the dark jungles of Africa, or three three blocks down the street at your friends house.
The good thing about genets is that they aren't cats, or monkeys, (even though they act a litle like both) and most people have never heard of them, and are unaware of their existance, so there are not many laws affecting them (other than blanket laws affecting all 'exotics').

Lioncrusher's Domain -- Angolan Genet (Genetta angolensis) facts and pictures
The Angolan genet lives in Africa, ranging from southern Zaire, central and northeastern Angola, western Zambia, northern Mozambique, and probably southern Tanzania.
The genet has fur that is reddish grey to dark grey in color, with small spots on its body and stripes on its tail.
It is unknown what the Angolan genet feeds on, but is presumed to be similar to other genet species.

Small Carnivore TAG Regional Collection Plan
Based on population genetic analyses, our estimate of the minimum viable population size (MVP) for maintenance of 90% of original genetic diversity for 200 years is approximately 600 animals per subspecies.
Improvements in the genetic and demographic performance of the population would reduce the population holding requirement somewhat, but even under a "best case scenario" the numbers required would still exceed the number of holding spaces that could be made available.
For example, improving the annual population growth rate from 0.091 to 0.14 (50% improvement), increasing the number of founders from 23 to 27 (17% improvement) and increasing the Ne/N from 0.33 to 0.5 (50% improvement) reduces the MVP requirement to 530 animals per subspecies, still far beyond estimated carrying capacity.

Genets and Civets (Viverrinae) Genets and civets are to carnivores what lemurs are to the higher primates.
They are omnivorous (eating vertebrates, invertebrates and plant matter) and rely on speed and agility and cryptic colouring to catch food as well as evade large predators.
In Diani we have the common genet - with a crest of long fur along the spine, a ringed tail and small, numerous, linear dark spots on a sandy background.

Terrestrial Ecoregions -- Angolan Miombo woodlands (AT0701)
While the avifauna of the Angolan miombo region is relatively rich, endemism levels are low with only the fl-tailed cisticola (Cisticola melanura) considered near-endemic to the ecoregion.
The Angolan termite mound flora has been poorly studied compared to that of many other areas, but general trends apply, such as an increased incidence of woody plants with small or sclerophyllous leaves, prickles or thorns, and animal-dispersed seeds.
Illegal strip-mining is increasing in parts of Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul Provinces, and this is irreversibly modifying large areas of woodland and grassland by altering soil structure and drainage patterns, as well as resulting in soil erosion (Dean 2000).

3-Food: African groups accuse WFP and USAID of denying right tochoose to
The WFP responded to the Angolan government by saying that the country would face a significant decrease in the provision of food aid if it continued to insist the GM grain is first milled.
This failure is borne out in several news reports during March-April 2004, containing acerbic criticisms by the WFP and USAID at the decisions of the Angolan and Sudanese governments to impose restrictions on GM food aid.
The truth of the matter is that the WFP is not providing the Angolan government with real choices but is instead, pushing a "take it or leave it" scenario and thus questioning the country's right to choose.

The intergenic transcribed sequence (ITS) comprises the transcribed region flanking the 5.8S gene and is located between the 3' of the 18S gene and the 5' of the following 28S gene.
Amplification of this region by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using DNA primers specific for conserved 18S and 28S elements has been used to produce characteristic DNA fragments from yeasts and from filamentous fungi.
Genetic relationships between fungal strains have been deduced from sequence variation found in the ITS1 and ITS2 intergenic transcribed spacer regions, or from characteristic RFLP maps resulting from differential restriction of the region (O'Donnell 1992 Curr.
