When work to refurbish the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge over Halifax Harbour was complete in the fall of 1999 the estimated 33,000 commuters who cross on the structure each day will be driving over a significantly new span.
The new-look Angus L. Macdonald Bridge is on schedule to be finished by November, says the general manager of the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission.
The Angus L. Macdonald Bridge reconstruction project is 70 per cent complete and may even wrap up ahead of time, says a bridge official.

In honour of the 110th Anniversary of Natal Day Celebrations and the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge, we have formed a partnership to bring to the residents of Nova Scotia many special events.
There will be a concert on the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge and the annual Bridge Walk will be an evening affair on the Monday.
The reviewing stand will be at the Macdonald Bridge toll plaza and the parade will then exit right on Wyse Road, left on Alderney Drive to the corner of Alderney Drive and Ochterlony Street.

On April 2, 1955 the Mi'kmaq curse put on the crossing of the narrows, over the harbour was removed in a ceremony during the commemoration of the opening of theAngus L. Macdonald Bridge, the third attempt at building a bridge to cross the harbour.
There were three attempts to cross the water, and two were unsuccessful, and went as described in the poems, one in storm, one in silence.
The third attempt is the MacDonald Bridge and the curse was removed.

Angus L. MacDonald, who became Premier in 1933, was particularly interested in promoting Scottish heritage, and it was during his time in office that the Gaelic College was founded (1939) and the official Nova Scotia tartan was created (1953).
Secondly, Premier MacDonald had resigned to become Minister of National Defense for Naval Services, and did not return to Nova Scotia until 1945, so plans had to be put on hold.
Premier MacDonald passed away suddenly a few months later in 1954, and the project lost a key supporter, especially in government.

In February 1999 I returned to the Angus L. Macdonald Library as Systems/Electronic Resources Librarian, fresh from my 2-year secondment to setup the Media Forge.
While in the Library I will continue to work with the campus website, DLI, various electronic resources, Novanet, etc. It will be a quick return however, as I assume the position of University Librarian at the University of Winnipeg in July.
Before Morrison the Forge had a long and successful stay in the basement of the Coady International Institute, and various locations in the Angus L. Macdonald Library.

At the age of 48, the firebrand political activist and one-time Toronto mayoral candidate was missing, his bicycle and helmet left on a bridge in Halifax the only signs of him.
Police believe he was overcome by the depression that plagued him over the past three years, and that he jumped from the Angus L. MacDonald bridge to his death on the night of March 5.
It's a moving symbol for us, the bicycle and helmet, partly because some of our most vivid memories of Gomberg are of him travelling the city by bicycle during the 2000 mayoral campaign with a "Tooker for mayor" flag attached to his seatpost, while his opponent toured the city in a chauffeur-driven Cadillac.
