		When she was asked to join the Velvet Underground, Tucker was working for IBM as a keypunch operator.
		The band's original percussionist, Angus Maclise, had left in November 1965 because he refused to play before a paying audience, and Tucker was drafted in because Velvets guitarist Sterling Morrison remembered the kid sister of one of his college friends played the drums.
		Tucker's style of playing was unusual: she played standing up, rather than seated, using a simplified drum kit of tom toms, a snare drum and an upturned bass drum, using mallets rather than drumsticks, and she rarely used cymbals.

		In 1965, Angus would become one of The velvet Underground's founding members, yet his association with the group would be quickly shortlived.
		Disenchanted with the direction i which the group's musical agenda was heading, he allowed himself to be fired by Lou Reed, thus curtailing his own part in the Velvets' future recording career, also shortlived.
		In the end it was destitution and chronic ill-health, not isolation, that led to his untimely death at 42.

		The central debate boils down to composition credit--Young wants all involved artists to sign a statement acknowledging him as the sole composer of the music, while Conrad and Cale refuse, believing the music to be a group composition.

		Angus Maclise, on the other hand, was far more the Renaissance Man: making his own calendars, doing calligraphy, publishing homemade collections of his poems and spiritual tracts, and acting in underground flicks, not to mention founding the original incarnation of The Velvet Underground.
		To those already entranced by his late-blooming legacy (he passed away prematurely at age 41 back in the late 1970s with no readily available documentation of his efforts), he is remembered as a powerful percussionist.
		Only once, on "Beezlebub", does Maclise pull out the Beat bongos, and even then promptly chucks them into a haunted pressure cooker, making a most intense and unholy clatter of percussion and disquieting ghost noise.
