Annals of General Psychiatry | Full text | Physical anhedonia in the acute phase of schizophrenia
Anhedonia, a term first used by Ribot [1], describes the lack of interest and the withdrawal from all the usual and pleasant activities.
Regarding the relationship of physical anhedonia and negative symptoms the results are in line with those by Loas et al [20] and Kirkpatrick et al [21] who have demonstrated that physical anhedonia and deficit symptoms, which are described as enduring negative symptoms, were significantly related.
Regarding the relationship of physical anhedonia and general psychopatology symptoms, similar to our results are the findings of Loas et al [23] who have found that physical anhedonia in chronic patients with schizophrenia was not significantly related to general psychopathology symptoms, estimated by both the PANSS and the BPRS.

Anhedonia is recognized as one of the key symptoms of the mood disorder depression according to both the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD).
Anhedonia is often experienced by drug addicts following withdrawal; in particular, stimulants like cocaine and amphetamines cause anhedonia and depression by depleting dopamine and other important neurotransmitters.
Very long-term addicts are sometimes said to suffer a permanent physical breakdown of their pleasure pathways, leading to anhedonia on a permanent or semi-permanent basis due to the extended overworking of the neural pleasure pathways during active addiction (particularly as regards cocaine and methamphetamine).

 The Corpus Callosum
DSM refers to anhedonia as one of the two core symptoms of depression; the other core symptom is depressed mood itself.
The presence of anhedonia is likely to be the cause, or part of the cause of many of the other symptoms: loss of appetite, impaired libido, low motivation, loss of interest, and so forth.
Furthermore, the presence of anhedonia ofter leads a depressed person to do exactly the opposite of what he or she should do to try to get out of depression.

 The Graduate: Anhedonia
The Graduate fall into the current pop-punk/emo genre fairly well, especially given the fact that their album title is also the term for a neurological disorder in which one is unable to gain pleasure from experiences most of us would find enjoyable.
Most of the songs on Anhedonia are fairly predictable in their progression; slow build-up, fast and heavy riffs, slow and meandering bridge followed by fade-out, and the return of fast and heavy riffs, wash, rinse and repeat.
Anhedonia is well-intentioned, but proof that there’s a lot of room for improvement.

Detailed Reviews [Elegant Simplicity - 2004 - "Anhedonia"] - ProgressoR
Officially, "Anhedonia" is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed "Architect of Light", though there is another album, which was released just before "Anhedonia".
"Anhedonia" is a concept work or, rather, a semi-concept, since there are only instrumental compositions.
Each of the seven tracks has its title, but as it is stated in the CD booklet, all of them, at the same time, are parts of a piece, which has given a title to the album.

Along with the previous two releases, "Palindrome" and "Architect of Light", "Anhedonia" is definitely one of the most compelling albums by Elegant Simplicity, though the introduction of such novelties as classically influenced arrangements makes it probably their best effort to date.

No Pleasure, No Reward - Plenty of Depression
This lack of ability to experience pleasure or be interested in pleasurable activities (anhedonia) is as intrinsic to depression as feeling sad, so much so that without one or the other diagnostic citizenship is denied.
The second study was an extension of the first, this time finding a similar correlation in happy (but not sad) responses in the VMPFC to various levels of severity of anhedonia (the Fawcett-Clarke Pleasure Scale measures for this).
Those with severe anhedonia also had weaker responses in the striatal regions.

CD REVIEW - St. John's Eve – “Anhedonia” : Legends Magazine, Issue 152
This theme continues until Anhedonia trances slowly to a brooding closure.
You'll find Anhedonia to be very subtle as a whole, with St. John's Eve mixing up very minimal elements to create pieces that still somehow manage to, for the mast part, stay alive and breathe and grow.
It doesn't blossom or explode; Anhedonia instead subtly collects itself as it moves on its brooding path quietly and on its own.

DOA - Whitman - Anhedonia Falling EP
The best that can be said of Anhedonia Falling, the debut EP from Austin, Texas-based Whitman, is that it is perfectly titled.
Defined as “the inability to feel pleasure,” “anhedonia” could be humorously interpreted as an earnest caveat to listeners: brace yourselves for sonic agony.
The “pain” of Whitman’s music is nothing like the acquired taste of the Jesus and Mary Chain’s artful fuzz or the piercing noises of Melt Banana’s hardcore.
