		I have to think that becoming an Animagus is one of the most difficult bits of magic to perform, so in all likelihood Sirius would be able to accomplish a form of disguise involving potions or a wand or something.
		And it doesn't really matter if he was an unregistered animagus, Voldemort and his followers knew about that and they would be able to recognise him if they bump into him anywhere outside.
		As Anthony had suggest that one animagus can be assumed to be excellent in transfiguration to be able to transform him/herself to their animagus form, I'm quite intrigued why we didn't read about him doing any form of transfiguration himself!
