  Man and His Death
Man is animal in negation, is negated animal.
In terms of the distinction between man and animal, this non-I is doubtless the animal life which has to be negated and transcended; in terms of man also himself an animal, this animal life as the non-I, however, has to be preserved for self-consciousness to be realized.
Kojève articulates this existentiality of man as this: "the human being is formed only in terms of a Desire directed toward another Desire, that is--finally--in terms of a desire for recognition," and "to speak of the 'origin' of Self-Consciousness is necessarily to speak of a fight to the death for 'recognition'" (7).

 Animal Aid: Man or Mouse
Animals have been used as 'surrogate humans' by scientists for many decades in an attempt to discover more about the workings of the human body the chemicals, and other substances that can harm it, the diseases that affect it, and the drugs that can potentially cure it.
But animal experiments continue unabated, with numbers again increasing in recent years due to the introduction of genetically-modified and transgenic animals, which allow scientists to manipulate the genetic material of animals in the hope that they can more closely resemble, for example, humans with a specific disease.
Many millions of animals of many different species have been used in scientific and medical research in an attempt to elucidate biological processes and the causes and progress of human disease, to gauge the potential hazards of chemicals and foodstuffs, for example, and to determine the safety and efficacy of proposed new drugs.

Man is both more than an animal by reason of his creation, yet less than an animal by reason of his Fall.

 THE ORIGIN OF MAN
Man is the only animal that is not imprisoned in a specifically determined medium but is constitutively open to the undefined horizon of the real world.
Man has, in a way, far fewer instincts than the prehuman hominid (in this sense, and in many others, including somatic ones, he is the more defenseless animal); and even those which he has conserved are transformed, in the sense of being less "mechanical," so to speak, and open to superior tendencies.
Man as a whole, then, is psychosomatically an evolutionary outgrowth; he springs evolutionally from a prehuman hominid.

 ANIMAL SPIRIT GUIDES
It is our opinion that animals do not ‘smell’ human emotions, but instead possess a form of ancient mental telepathy or method of thought transference not understood by modern man. Animals do communicate with man by receiving mental messages and they carry this ability with them in spirit as they die.
Likewise, by meditating on various mammals, a path is opened to the mammalian aspects of the human psychic corresponding to the thalamus and the hypothalamus in the brain associated with the emotions, a sense of community, and instinctual wisdom.
As we learn about animals, it is important to know their symbolic meaning as a point of reference and comparison, however we must keep in mind that symbols are cultural in nature and differ from place to place, from time to time and may not reflect the nature of the animal as you feel it.
