Floydian Slip(tm) : The Pink Floyd Experience > Albums > Pink Floyd > Animals
Roger Waters wrote "Pigs (Three Different Ones)," to make an animal trilogy, and also came up with "Pigs on the Wing," a simple, short, acoustic number that begins the album, and an alternate version that closes it.
Only those lucky (?) enough to purchase the album on eight-track got to hear the song as it was originally recorded, with parts one and two connected by a soaring guitar solo courtesy of White.
With a somewhat Orwellian theme of people as animals, the "Animals" album didn't endear itself to conservatives such as Mary Whitehouse —; a British Moral Majority-like figure who is parodied in "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" — especially when the group used an eerie electronic effect on an altered recitation of the 23rd Psalm during "Sheep."

Animals (album) - guideofcasinos.com   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Animals is a 1977 concept album by Pink Floyd, loosely reminiscent of George Orwell's famous book Animal Farm.
To date, Animals has sold over four million copies in the US alone, seven million worldwide and is currently listed as Quadruple Platinum by the R.I.A.A. A digitally re-mastered CD was subsequently released in Europe 1994 on EMI and in 1997 in for the rest of the world on Columbia/Sony.
The album appears to be heavily inspired by George Orwell's Animal Farm as, through the central three songs, all of which are over 10 minutes in length, Roger Waters equates all humans to one of three types of animals: dogs, pigs, or sheep.

Animals was the first album to be predominantly written by bass player/singer/lyricist Roger Waters.
The Animals album was originally released on January 23, 1977 in the UK on Harvest Records, and released on 2 February 1977 in the United States and Canada on Columbia Records.
The album appears to be heavily inspired by George Orwell’s Animal Farm as, through the central three songs, Roger Waters uses three animals as metaphors for human behavior: dogs, pigs, or sheep.

 The Animals - Virgin Radio
Animals album releases varied significantly between the UK and the US, even those with the same or similar names had different contents.
The Animals underwent numerous personnel changes and emerged as an exponent of psychedelic rock before dissolving at the end of the decade.
The Animals' moderate success in their hometown and a connection with Yardbirds manager Giorgio Gomelsky motivated them to move to London in 1964, in time to be grouped with the British Invasion.

 Review of the Animals album.
This is probably the most "Rock n Roll"ish album in the Floyd discography, perhaps as a response to the Punk trend dominating England at the time.
It was this song that gave rise to the huge, inflatable pig that the Floyd used on this album cover and in concerts for the rest of their careers.
In keeping with one of the musical themes of this album, animal noises are obligatory, and Dave provides some truly nauseating sound effects on this tune.

They made three albums for that label, one each in 1964, 1965 and 1966, and then dropped Most and Columbia, moving to British Decca, which released their final album.
Albums would also be rearranged to accommodate a late-breaking hit single in the U.S. The first Animals recording is a genuine rarity and a real collector’s item.
The Animals, was recorded in February, 1964 – before the first single – and was released first in the U.S. (in a slightly different version) to coincide with their September, 1964 American tour.

There is not a single song on this album that I dislike, and I personally love the fact that Gruff, Bunf, Daf and Cian sing on this record as I feel it allows SFA to go into territories they wouldn't normally be able to explore with just one lead vocalist.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on Mechanical Animals by Marilyn Manson at Epinions.com
There is more to the album than mere singles--this is a nearly fully realized work of an ambitious and misunderstood artist.
Mechanical Animals actually rose to the number one position on the Billboard 200 and has sold to platinum levels despite the skepticism that surrounded Manson's talent because of his previous professional friendship with Trent Reznor.
While the fact it is a concept album ala Ziggy Stardust is obvious, I actually prefer to ingest these songs as an album rather than the intended story.

 The Animals
The bad news is that this is a double album, and this is not due to the fact that Eric and company had written an outstanding collection of innumerable songs of the highest quality.
The second attempt by the original Animals to come back together was even less commercially and critically successful than the first one but, believe it or not, resulted in a good album.
If you remember it, the Animals were a nice little raunchy R'n'B band that didn't write too much of their own songs, but when they did write something, organist Alan Price and vocalist Eric Burdon would get together and pen something nice and derivative that would later be performed with a flair.

With this album the band took an artistic risk and predictably were accused of "selling out" by many people, when really the safe option would have been for them to make another album like Antichrist Superstar.
Mechanical Animals is a giant leap away from the industrial dissonance and aggressive metal of Antichrist Superstar.
this album is _powerful_..i cant explain why exactly, i've heard sadder lyrics and i've heard sadder cellos/strings, but the songs 'coma white' and 'mechanical animals' are constructed for maximum emotional effect.

#PFCO Discography - Animals Trivia and Quotes
The legendary inflatable Floyd pig was conceived by Roger Waters and originally designed by ERG of Amsterdam in December 1976 for the photo session at Battersea Power Station which spawned the "Animals" album cover.
With 'Animals', Roger carves up the human species into three categories, each heralded by the title of one of the album's main pieces....The pigs: moralists, self-righteous and tyrannical, yet ultimately pathetic...The dogs: cutthroat pragmatists out to claw their way to the top of the heap...
While 'Animals' was viewed in some respects as a 'courageous' endeavor, it also foreshadowed a time when Waters would stress his increasingly strident message to the detriment of PF's distinctive music.

Animals - Pink Floyd - Song Listings
Of all of the classic-era Pink Floyd albums, Animals is the strangest and darkest, a record that's hard to initially embrace yet winds up yielding as many rewards as its equally nihilistic successor, The Wall.
Animals is all extended pieces, yet it never drifts -- it slowly, ominously works its way toward its destination.
For an album that so clearly is Waters', David Gilmour's guitar dominates thoroughly, with Richard Wright's keyboards rarely rising above a mood-setting background (such as on the intro to "Sheep").

Super Furry Animals: Phantom Power: Pitchfork Record Review
Six albums deep into their career, Super Furry Animals have world-built an entire mythology of Welsh mysticism, Beach Boys homages, and Pete Fowler's bubbly cartoons to such a point that slipping into Phantom Power comes as a comfortable, pleasant exercise.
This dichotomy is what makes the album so fascinating-- Super Furry Animals rail against the "gulf of misery" created by America (snowballing seas "painted red by bleeding army"), yet more than ever invest their efforts in honey-dipped California harmonies, Mississippi mud slide-guitars, and snapping Stax drumming.
Super Furry Animals never settle into one mood here, and Phantom Power sees the down-to-earth Welsh band moving away from genre-hopping and rough juxtapositions, and beginning to blend their influences into an evenly spread melange that simply sounds like a highly evolved pop band.

The work of an East London quartet with a wry observational eye and a sound planted somewhere between Squeeze, XTC and Blur from the time of Modern Life Is Rubbish, Vehicles and Animals is a success of subtle experimentalism, box-twiddling electronic trickery and brightly optimistic pop nous.
This album shows Athlete trying to find themselves, and the result is an album full of completely different songs, all of which are pulled of spectacularly.
This is a fairly good album, its on of those albums which are nice, light hearted, and easy to listen to.

Whilst the kids fought over who were the Kings of Britpop in ‘96, SFA ran a parallel musical universe with their debut, snuck up on the outside and nearly stole the whole show with their mix of 60’s psychedelia and Punk Rock all held together with the dance elements that were prevalent at the time.

Pink Floyd - Music Downloads - Online
While Pink Floyd are mostly known for their grandiose concept albums of the 1970s, they started as a very different sort of psychedelic band.
Dominated almost wholly by Barrett's songs, the album was a charming fun house of driving, mysterious rockers ("Lucifer Sam"); odd character sketches ("The Gnome"); childhood flashbacks ("Bike," "Matilda Mother"); and freakier pieces with lengthy instrumental passages ("Astronomy Domine," "Interstellar Overdrive," "Pow R Toch") that mapped out their fascination with space travel.
It was early in the game yet, after all; the first album had made the British Top Ten, but the group was still virtually unknown in America, where the loss of Syd Barrett meant nothing to the media.
