As with many swallowtails, there is both a light and dark form for the pupa.

I just remembered that the Old World Swallowtail has the fl edge on upper part of the eyespot, so this is an Anise Swallowtail.

The fl swallowtail (found in the Eastern US) and the Anise Swallowtail (found in the western US) are very phenotypically similar, in their larval stages!!
The main larval differences between the fl swallowtail and the anise swallowtail appear to be that the fl bands on the fl swallowtail are more dominant, relative to the yellow blobs on each band.
The adults, on the the other hand, are very different between the two species - with the fl swallotail being mostly fl and the Anise swallowtail appearing to be intermediate between BST and Tiger swallowtails.
