Born Anna McKim in New York, New York, Dvorak was the daughter of silent actress Anna Lehr and the actor/director, Samuel McKim, and as a child appeared in several films.

Ann Dvorak was signed to MGM and appeared in nearly 20 features for the studio as an extra or chorus girl.
Ann's relationship with Warner Bros. suffered and the remainder of her contract was spent either as leading ladies in mostly lackluster films, or in litigation, objecting to these types of roles.
Ann ended this union with Russian dancer Igor Dega in 1951, the same year she retired from the screen.

American actress Ann Dvorak was the daughter of silent film director Sam McKim and stage actress Anne Lehr ("Dvorak" was her mother's maiden name).
Angeles, Dvorak secured work as a chorus dancer in early talking films: she is quite visible amongst the female hoofers in Hollywood Revue of 1929 (1929).
Dvorak was put under contract and cast in Scarface as gangster Paul Muni's sister, and despite the strictures of film censorship at the time, the actress' piercing eyes and subtle body language made certain that the "incest" subtext in the script came through loud and clear.

Thrill of discovery still motivates him - The Boston Globe
He authored papers in 1979 and again in 1983 that changed the very face of cancer research, identifying the source that allowed tumors to grow, and giving patients hope that perhaps a cure was possible.
But hope is still alive today, partly because of Dvorak's work on angiogenesis, the process by which blood vessels grow and spread, often to feed tumors.
It became known as vascular endothelial growth factor -- or VEGF (pronounced vej-f) -- and Dvorak, who had intended to focus on immunology not cancer research, was suddenly at the center of the storm.
