Anna is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Hannah, both of which mean grace.
Anna was a very faithful lady who prayed daily at the Temple, and was there when, as Joseph and Mary presented the infant Jesus to The Lord according to Israelite law, Simeon identified Jesus as the promised Messiah.
Anna was a prophetess, a somewhat rare role for the women of Bible History - among the very few others identified by name were Miriam and Deborah.

Anna the Prophetess is introduced in the infancy narrative of Luke 2:36-38.
The gospel records that Anna was widowed after seven years of marriage and committed the remainder of her 105 years to worshipping in the Temple through fasting and prayer.
It is not certain that Anna resided in the Temple, however she is said to worship God at the Temple both night and day.

Anna is recognized on the Temple scene around 4-5 B.C., at the time of the birth of Messiah.
The fact that Anna was not permitted to be a co-priestess with Simeon, proves women were still excluded from the Priesthood.
Since women were not allowed to be priestesses or to preach in the Temple, Anna was not called of God into a ministry equal to the men of her day, who represented authority in the house of God.

At the conclusion of a four-hour presentation I recently gave on "Women of the Bible," one of the participants exclaimed, "I never knew Jesus had women disciples!" She was puzzled as to why she had never heard this before, since she had been a devout, church-going Catholic for all her 35 years.
February 2, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple, is assigned the passage from Luke 2:22-40.
Those who were gathered are named in Acts 1 as the eleven and "some women in their company, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers." In the lectionary, the opening sentence is interpreted and modified to read "When the day of Pentecost came it found the brethren gathered in one place" (emphasis added).

One of Anna's most prized possessions was a very large, leather-bound, family Bible, which had belonged to her father, who was a medical doctor in Victoria and Refugio Counties, Texas.
I also think that, knowing the circumstances at the time of the birth of William Clinton Stoner, and at the time of the death of Martha E. Wellington, both dates were written at a later date than Dec. 27, 1886, when Martha E. Wellington died.
Through an oversight, it was not entered in the Bible records at the time of her death, a fact which was not noticed until January, 1997, when Margaret Stoner McLean prepared to make a complete transcription of the records to send to all the decendents of Anna Louisa Wellington Stoner.
