Winnie Ewing is a prominent Scottish nationalist and a former Member of Parliament (MP), Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP).
The term was meant to be given in jest and used in a disparaging way by her opponents, but Ewing used the term as a badge of pride and it stuck.
Her son Fergus Ewing[?] and his wife Margaret Ewing[?] both serve as SNP MSPs, whilst her daughter Annabelle Ewing[?] is a SNP MP.

Stuart Ewing, 76, was overcome by smoke after a chip pan fire at the family home in Miltonduff, near Elgin, on Monday afternoon.
Mr Ewing, an SNP activist, was an adviser to his wife, who represents Highlands and Islands, and encouraged her to stand in the Hamilton by-election in 1967, when she became the party's first Member of Parliament.
Mrs Ewing was in a "state of shock", according to her son Fergus Ewing, MSP for Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber.
