  Sri Venkateswara Annamacharya  Society of America
Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya (1408-1503) the mystic saint composer of the 15th century is the earliest known musician of South India to compose songs called “sankIrtanas” in praise of Lord Venkateswara, the deity of Seven Hills in Tirumala, India.
During his long and prolific career, Annamacharya composed and sang 32,000 Sankirtanas, 12 Satakas (sets of hundred verses), Ramayana in the form of dwipada, sankIrtana lakshaNam (Characteristics of sankIrtanas), SRngAra manjari, and vEnkaTAchala mahAtmamyam.
Annamacharya wrote the sankIrtanas on palm leaves and later his son Tirumalacharya got them engraved on copper plates.

  Annamacharya Project
The Annamacharya Project was established in 1978 with a view to propagate the tatwa and mahatwa of Lord Sri Venkateswara.
Group rendering of Annamacharya Saptagiri sankeertanas by eminent musicians and artistes belonging to the project is organised in Andhra Pradesh during the Annamacharya Vardhanti and Jayanti festivals.
Annamacharya's compositions and the works of other Tallapaka poets are printed and published from time to time, according to the demand from devotees and researchers.

 Concert on Annamacharya Keerthanas
Tallapakka Annamacharya (1408-1503 A.D) hailed as the Pada Kavitha Pitamaha, Hari Sankeerthanacharya and Panchamagama Sarvabhowma, composed 32,000 devotional compositions, all dedicated to the Lotus feet of Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala, during his lifetime.
The Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams and the Bharatiya Sangeetha Vaibhavam (a Trust for Preservation, Perpetuation and Propagation of Bharatiya Sangeetham) jointly presented the three-day Annamacharya festival at the Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai-18, recently.
On the inaugural day of the Festival, Vijayalakshmi Subramaniam, one of the few musicians fervently committed to the propagation of Annamacharya Keerthanas, gave a 90-minute vocal recital which was thoroughly in keeping with the laudable spiritual tenor and ambience generated by the organisers in this context.

The word 'pamidi' was given a nonsensical explanation by Dr. Kesarla Vani, a prominent member of the Annamacharya project headed by Dr. Medasani Mohan.

Annamacharya was the very first Vak-geyakaara (composer of sankeerthanas using colloquial language) in Telugu and established a tradition which was later followed by a number of saint composers like Tyagaiah, Kshetraiah, Ramadasu, etc. Purandaradasa, Kannada composer, praised the Sankeerthanas of Sri Annamacharya and said that the Sankeerthanacharya is the incarnation of Lord Venkateswara Himself.

Annamacharya's great adeptness and command over Telugu literature and its extensive usage is evident from his keerthanas like Srimannarayana, Hari namame kadu anandakaramu, Ide sirasu manikyam, Bhavamulona baahyamu nanduna, Bhavayami Gopalabalam, Tiruveedhula merisi devadevudu, Kadaludipi neeradaga talachu vaaralaku, Ksheerabdi kanyakaku, Tirutiru javarala, etc. (just to name a few).

CHENNAI: The ‘Tirumala TirupatiDevasthanam’s (TTD) Annamacharya project is conducting the 597th Annamacharya Jayanthy (Aradhana) celebrations for three days from July 1- July 3 at Narada Gana Sabha in Alwarpet.
Annamacharya was a devotee of ‘Lord Venkatchalapathy’ of Tirumala and was the first ‘vaggeyakara’ (music composer) in Andhra Pradesh.
On July 2, eminent carnatic musician Dr Balamuralikrishna would be felicitated followed by a multimedia presentation and a lecture demonstration of the Saint by Dr Pappu Venugopala Rao, Annamacharya project director, she said.

Although Annamcharya composed krithis in praise of many archamuthis of Srimannarayana, the Lord of his heart was Sri Venkateswara.Traditon has it that he once ran away to Tirupati and fell asleep on a rock after an exhausting climb of the first steep hill at Tirumala.

TIRUPATI,JULY 1: Even as the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is preparing to celebrate the silver jubilee of its 'Annamacharya project,' authorities were shocked to discover that as many as 26 master cassettes of Annamayacharya Keerthans are missing.
They are believed to have found their way into the recording rooms of private audio recording centres at Chennai and Bangalore.
The Annamacharya project was established in 1978 to record and preserve the 12,000-odd songs penned by the great saint and propagating them among the masses.
