Annan Athletic after their convincing League Cup victory over Dalbeattie Star on Wednesday evening handed out another clear warning to all East Premier League contenders that they are going to be a team to contend with this season with another convincing 4-0 victory, this time over Edinburgh University at Galabank on Saturday.
Annan despite their comfortable lead completed the last 20 minutes in comparison with a disappointing performance and for the first time in the match it was the students who started to dictate the play.
Annan had the opportunity to have the last say on the match when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 85th minute but man of the match Steven Sloan was deprived of a well earned hat trick when his shot cannoned off the cross bar.

East of Scotland Football League - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its clubs are largely drawn from the Edinburgh and Scottish Borders areas, although with a number of clubs having opted to join their ranks from the SoSFL in recent years (Annan Athletic, Threave Rovers, Dalbeattie Star) there are now a few clubs from the Dumfriesshire area too.
Generally not viewed as being as strong as the HFL (with fewer of their club sides defeating SFL sides in the Scottish Cup competition as opposed to the HFL) it is still regarded as being stronger than the SoSFL.
A number of the sides in the EoSFL have applied to join the SFL in recent years, with Gala Fairydean applying in 1994, 2000 and 2002, Preston Athletic F.C. applying in 2000 and 2002, Annan Athletic in 2000 and Edinburgh City F.C. attempting to join in 2002.

It was Annan who looked the stronger side throughout the first half and it was no surprise when Marcus Thompson gave the homesters the lead in twenty five minutes as he followed up on a Grant Parker shot that had rebounded off the post.
Annan then pressed forward and with the Queen's defence looking vulnerable Mike Jack shot wide with Colin Scott well beaten and then the same player produced a cross that had to be tipped onto the top of the bar to prevent a goal.
