Anne of Green Gables - Wild Cherry Blossoms: The Green Gables Project
Anne of Green Gables's debut in 1908 was met with instant popularity, and Anne's author, L. Montgomery, produced the sequel Anne of Avonlea within a year.
Montgomery continued to receive requests throughout her life for "more" about Anne Shirley, consequently she created a total of eight novels in the Anne series plus three volumes of related short stories from 1908 until her death in 1942.
Throughout the years, Montgomery grew tired of her red-haired heroine: she complained she was being "dragged at Anne's chariot wheels," for in order to financially support herself and please her fans she had to write more about Anne although she did not want to.

Anne of Windy Poplars (Anne of Green Gables) by L.M. Montgomery
Much of the story is written as letters from Anne to Gilbert in which she describes her new life in Summerside, her room at Windy Poplars, the household intrigues between Aunts Chatty and Kathy and the tomatolike housekeeper Rebecca Dew, and the schemes of the spiteful Pringle clan in attempting to bring Anne down.
Somehow "Anne of Windy Poplars" seemed to paint a portrait of the real Anne: in the prime of her youth, radiant, mischievous, in love, kindred spirit and poet, eager to savour all the experiences placed before her.
