Established in 1989, The Annenberg Foundation is the successor corporation to the Annenberg School for Communication founded in 1958 by the Hon.
Their ongoing support of the USC Annenberg School for Communication ensures that our faculty and students are engaged in groundbreaking research and practice in communications and journalism and that we attain the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in those fields.

Walter Annenberg attended high school at the Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey (graduated 1927) and continued on to the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1931.
It was Annenberg who introduced Reagan to Margaret Thatcher, and the Reagans often celebrated New Year's Eve with the Annenbergs.
Annenberg died at his home in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania in October 2002, at the age of 94.

Since 1951, the Annenberg family and the Annenberg Foundation have given $288 million to the university, and founded both the USC Annenberg School for Communication and the USC Annenberg Center for Communication, an interdisciplinary center to address the ethical, social, technological and economic opportunities and challenges related to communication in the 21st century.
Annenberg was founder and publisher of TV Guide and Seventeen magazine, the former editor and publisher of the Philadelphia Inquirer and the former chairman of Triangle Publications.

Annenberg's net worth this year was $4 billion, according to an estimate by Forbes magazine, which ranked him at No. 39 on a list of wealthiest Americans.
Moses Annenberg, born in an East Prussian village, had immigrated to the United States as a child and was reared in poverty in Chicago.

Annenberg Hall houses a vast collection of paintings, sculpture and stained glass.
Central heating and kitchen space were absent from the original design for Annenberg Hall (previously Alumni Hall) since the only major banquet expected to take place in the hall was the great Commencement banquet which took place in June and was handled by caterers.

The Annenberg Foundation gift strengthens the portion of the Academy's endowment currently earmarked for the long-term preservation of the Academy of Music and raises the Academy's total endowment to nearly $20 million, more than four times its current value of approximately $4.9 million.

Since Annenberg withdrew his pledge CPB and the foundation separately decided that they wanted to focus their efforts on math and science education of younger students, according to Mayor.
The adviser says that Annenberg wanted to give people "a second chance" to get an education, but he decided that chance could be given at a younger age, instead of waiting until college age, when it may be too late to help many young people academically.
