Topic: Annihilator (band)

  Annihilator
Annihilator is a heavy metal band which started with the album Alice in Hell, and now it has 12 albums including live albums.
Annihilator was started in Ottawa by Jeff Waters in 1984.
Before the release of their debut LP, Waters relocated to Vancouver where he assembled a whole new line-up, including former D.O.A. The follow up was 1994's Zingalamaduni, which did very well with some critics but was panned by many others, and the album sold poorly.

Canada's biggest metal export in the '80s, Vancouver (by way of Ottawa) thrash metallers Annihilator was one of the many classic examples of a band which kicks off with a fanatstic debut that is an instant classic (Van Halen, Exodus, etc.) and deteriorates steadily from there never to fulfill its initial promise.
Simultaneously, the band and vocalist Joe Comeau went their separate ways due to "non-musical differences." Vancouver-based Dave Padden was the band's new front man. Annihilator did not miss a beat and played at Wacken 2003 even as Waters was busy relocating back to his hometown of Ottawa.
The former refers to the band's revamped line-up for the new album while the latter refers to All For You's attempt to return to and recapture the glory of Annihilator's debut album, the praiseworthy Alice In Hell.

Annihilator...a band that Canada can be VERY proud of and a band that I've been a fan of since I first saw the video for "Alice In Hell" way back in the 80's.
There was nothing else in life except ANNIHILATOR and If you weren't doing the right thing from my point of view for this band then you weren't part of it or weren't doing your job.
The full and complete one hundred percent reality or truth to this stuff is that there have been quite a few bands that have "A" asked me to produce their record or "B" join their bands or "C" just be a touring or studio guy.

Canadian thrashers Annihilator are the lifework of guitarist Jeff Waters, who founded the band in his native Vancouver in 1984 -- just as the speed metal revolution was getting underway further to the south in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Due in large part to this geographical isolation, Annihilator as a band phased in and out of existence over the next few years, with only Waters as a constant factor, but when the driven guitarist's homemade demos finally made it into the hands of Roadrunner Records, the band's career was ready to begin.
Released to positively wild public and critical acclaim at the height of the thrash metal boom, Annihilator's 1989 debut, Alice in Hell, was an unqualified triumph and epitomized the state of the art in terms of thinking man's thrash metal, but it was hardly a band effort.
