Groundfish Publications - King et al. 2000
Progress in ecosystem management requires the characterisation of the dynamics of a species’ ecosystem, and the climatic influences on those dynamics.
The year class success of sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria) exhibit decadal-scale patterns that relate to decadal-scale patterns in North Pacific climate-ocean conditions.
As an example, and a step towards, incorporating the dynamics of marine systems into the stock assessment and management of sablefish, we produce a ‘report card’ that characterises the species’ ecosystem on decadal-scales.

Effects of an El Nino event on the food habits of larval sablefish, Anoplopoma fimbria, off Oregon and Washington.
The effect of El Nino conditions on the food habits of larval sablefish, Anoplopoma fimbria, was examined by comparing the diet of larvae collected off Oregon and Washington during the 1983 El Nino event and during 1980, a year in which conditions were not anomalous.
While differential utilization of appendicularians, pteropods, and amphipods was seen in the 2 years, the most notable difference was that small copepods contributed significantly more to the diet in 1983 than in 1980.

CA Dept. Fish & Game (Marine) — Technical Report - Deepwater Demersal Fishes Observed from the Submersible Avalon ...
On 24 June 1985 the U.S. Navy's Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle AVALON (DSRV-2) was used to locate low-level radioactive waste containers and make obervations of deepwater benthic fishes and invertebrates at the 900 m (2952 ft) radioactive waste disposal site approximately 4.4 km SW of the Farallon Islands off San Francisco, California.
During the three hours on the bottom in depths of 975 to 1039 m (3198 to 3408 ft) five identifiable species of demersal fishes were observed: Dover sole, Microstomus pacificus; thornyheads, Sebastolobus spp.; deepsea sole, Embassichthys bathybius; sablefish, Anoplopoma fimbria; and Pacific hagfish, Eptatretus stoutii.
Unidentifiable demersal fishes from the families Macrouridae and Zoarcidae were also identified, including the tanner crab, Chionoecetes tanneri, and a large sea penn, Stylatula elongata.
