Brian Douglas Wilson (born June 20, 1942, in Hawthorne, California) is an American pop musician, best known as a founding member of and the main producer, composer, and arranger for The Beach Boys.
Brian was a great admirer of Phil Spector and his studio work, and considered Spector both a mentor and one of his chief rivals.

Brian Wilson is the very definition of a "troubled genius." In the tradition of Phil Spector, Wilson's prodigious talents as a songwriter, producer, arranger, and singer took his group, the Beach Boys, to the top of the music world before he'd even reached his 20th birthday.
The song, like the rest of the album, recalls some of Wilson's best work over the years: The Spector-esque "wall of sound" instrumentation is perfectly suited to the wonderfully over-the-top harmonies, which are all sung by Wilson.

Brian Wilson recreates the original very well, although I'm partial to the 1965-6 Beachboys renderings of some of the same songs that were on SMILEY SMILE and Wild Honey, fragmented as they were.
It makes one mourn for the fact that we will never hear this performed by Brian at the peak of his vocal and creative abilities, but you also find yourself rejoicing that after nearly 40 years, we are able to hear it at all.
Perhaps the people that will enjoy this album the most are the young, they come to it fresh and with no bias.

The album is really Brian with helpers; most of the songs are co-written with others and/or co-produced as well.
There are no dud tracks on this album although the eight minute opus "Rio Grande" may not be to everyone's taste as it is a little self-indulgent.

 Album Reviews: Beach Boys Solo Albums
Brian handles most of the backing vocals on the album, showing off his undiminished talent for arranging complex harmony, but sometimes the vocals are unnecessarily sloppy, and what may have been intended as loose and rollicking sounds careless.
The album closes with the jarring, autobiographical "Happy Days" which although initially dark and off-putting, becomes more powerful with repeated listenings and ends the album with an air of hope, which is perhaps what Brian intended, and without doubt deserves.
Brian's first studio album since 1998's Imagination is the first to really sound like a Brian Wilson album should, which only makes sense due to the fact that this is the first Brian Wilson solo album to actually be produced by Brian.
