According to unofficial information available to Baltic News Service, the Foreign Ministry has proposed outgoing foreign minister Antanas Valionis, who held the office of foreign minister in three Lithuanian governments and had served two terms of office as Lithuanian ambassador to Warsaw before that, for the post of ambassador to Portugal.
Outgoing science and education minister Remigijus Motuzas, who stated he would not seek the minister's post in the wake of a scandal over maturity exams, has been proposed to be appointed as ambassador to Sweden.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis has publicly admitted for the first time ever that his name was on the list of reserve officers of the Soviet KGB.
I have never concealed this fact," Valionis said on the national radio, commenting on a Friday report of the Atgimimas Weekly that he was put on the list in 1981.
The weekly said that Valionis took part in exercises of the secret service and was acclaimed and given the title of a captain.
