Bohol is an island province in the Visayas.
The people of Bohol are said to be the descendants of the last group of inhabitants who settled in the Philippines called pintados or “tattooed ones.” Boholanos had already a culture of their own as evidence by the artifacts dug at Mansasa, Tagbilaran, and in Dauis and Panglao.

Bohol was under the sea at one time and these hills, made of broken coral and sea shells, were formed by current and wave action before the sea receded.

During this dark period, hundreds of Boholanos died and 20 of the 35 towns of Bohol, at the time, were burned to the ground and livestock were slaughtered indiscriminately in the effort to force the Boholanos to submission.
