Anthelmintic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anthelmintics (in the U.S., antihelminthics) are drugs that expel parasitic worms (helminths) from the body, by either killing or stunning them.
Many members of the piperazine family are successful anthelmintics.
Natural anthelmintics include fl walnut, wormwood (Artemisia absynthium), clove (Syzygium aromaticum), tansy tea (Tanacetum vulgare), Hagenia (Hagenia abyssinica), and the male fern (Dryopteris filix-mas).

Effects of Late-Summer Protein Supplementation and Deworming on Performance of Beef Heifers Grazing Native Range
The objective of this study was to determine the effects of deworming and protein supplementation during late-summer on performance of fall-born heifers grazing native warm-season pastures.
Anthelmintic treatment did not influence weight gain during the first period of the study (August) although deworming did increase performance in each of the last two periods (September and October).
Overall, the combination of anthelmintic treatment and protein supplementation increased average daily weight gain by 0.76 lb/d, with approximately 63% of the response being attributed to protein supplementation and 37% of the response being attributed to deworming.

Piperazine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Piperazine was first introduced as an anthelmintic in 1953.
Their mode of action is generally by paralysing parasites, which allows the host body to easily remove or expel the invading organism.
These drugs are often referred to simply as "piperazine" which may cause confusion between the specific anthelmintic drugs and the entire class of piperazine-containing compounds.

Anthelmintic resistance in nematode parasites of sheep, goats and horses is now a firmly established phenomenon, particularly in warm temperate or tropical regions of the world (Waller and Prichard, 1986).
A critical factor in the evolution of anthelmintic resistance in a worm population is the extent to which survivors of drug treatment contribute their genes to future generations of worms.

Anthelmintic testing (other than clinical field trials) may be conducted with either naturally or experimentally infected animals.
Anthelmintic treatment should be administered to the bitch at least 7 days after experimental inoculation or at least 2 days prior to parturition.
However, experimental infections must be utilized in evaluating the activity of anthelmintics against migratory and immature stages as well as against the somatic stages of ascarids which may be transmitted by intrauterine or transmammary routes.

Anthelmintic resistance of internal parasite populations exists for all current drug families including benzimidazole (McKenna, 1990), levamisole (Verady et al., 1993), ivermectin (DeVaney et al., 1992), and tomorantel (Anderson et al., 1988).

The main objective of this study was to determine whether a garlic treatment method commonly used in Israel to treat horses and donkeys is efficacious as an anthelmintic against Stongylidae in donkeys.
The failure of garlic as an anthelmintic (13,17) may have been due to the method used to prepare the garlic, the dose administered, the method of evaluating the outcome, or that garlic has no anthelmintic effect at all.
