  Reviews for Anthems of Rebellion
In comparison to the previous AE releases, "Anthems of Rebellion" is no more than just an effort of creating interesting music, but nevertheless Arch Enemy has failed to succeed in that attempt.
Some may like "Anthems of Rebellion", but I expected something in the vein of "Burning Bridges" and / or "Wages of Sin" - which both are excellent releases.
Anthems of Rebellion and Wages of Sin are in a small and exclusive group of albums that are actually able to give me something that I can only refer to as mental orgasms..

Arch Enemy - 'Anthems of Rebellion' review @ into-obscurity.com[enter the underground]
I wouldn't be stretching the truth if I said that Arch Enemy's new album is one of the most anticipated albums of 2003.
They may not be the most lightning fast and technical soloists, but their inventive riffing and song structures provide a freshness to a genre that is quickly growing stale.
Despite not reaching the high expectations I had for it, "Anthems of Rebellion" is still one of the better melodic metal albums to come out this year and preserves a sound that undoubtedly belongs to Arch Enemy.

"Anthems Of Rebellion" is the second album from the band to feature the new female growler Angela Gossow who have probably gained the band some new bands, both because of her voice but of course also some because of her looks.
Even if the band members would deny it themselves the latter was no doubt one of the reasons why she was chosen to be the band's new vocalist to replace Johan Liiva who apparently could not satisfy the band's demands any longer.
"Anthems Of Rebellion" is a typical Arch Enemy album with the twin guitar attack from the Amott brothers doing most of the the hard work.

The title of the new Arch Enemy opus is “Anthems Of Rebellion”.
There is a thread of ANTI-establishment and REBELLION that goes through all the songs lyrics and also the artwork, but I wouldn’t go as far as calling it a full-blown concept, that kind of stuff usually tends to get in the way of the music.
“Anthems Of Rebellion” has got every type of feel and emotion that we want to have in our music…it’s beautiful and it’s ugly.

Released Aug. 26 in the United States, "Anthems of Rebellion" has become this month's number one most added album to College Music Journal stations.
Arch Enemy, featuring a sound that can best be related to a combination of Morbid Angel and Slayer, has continued to create pure metal with "Anthems of Rebellion." America has ignored Arch Enemy's previous albums, but should take notice of this release.

While the overall sound and tone of the album isn’t much different from Wages of Sin, it garnishes the fact that Miss Gossow is very talented and more than worthy to front the Amott brothers.
The production on Anthems is almost perfect, although the bass drums could have sounded fuller on a few select tracks.
While longtime followers of Arch Enemy may find Anthems of Rebellion to be one of their best, short term listeners may not find too much of a difference from Wages, and dismiss it as a “If it’s not broke, why fix it?” type of musical srtategy.

Orlando Weekly - Music Review - Anthems of Rebellion
Without devolving into cliché (thankfully, there doesn't appear to be any direct paeans to the metal lifestyle), this Swedish quintet neatly encapsulates all the excellence that heavy metal has to offer in a way that is neither retro nor overtly "progressive," making one wonder if they followed a Metal 101 guidebook.
(I'm sure they didn't.) Steadily improving since their formation in the mid-'90s, the appropriately titled "Anthems of Rebellion" highlights Arch Enemy's two strongest suits: the phenomenally powerful (and nearly melodic) drumming of Daniel Erlandsson and the tonsil-shredding growl of Angela Gossow, perhaps the least feminine female singer on the planet.
The riff/solo team of guitarist brothers Michael and Christopher Arnott raise the bar for melody and bruising chunkiness, but without Erlandsson's exceptional drumming and Gossow's distinctive scariness, "Anthems" would just be a great metal album.

After the initial shock of finding out that Arch Enemy had recruited a female vocalist (Angela Gossow) for last years Wages Of Sin, I soon discovered that the band had created an album that was true to their original design, and easily made its way to one of the best for that year.
There is a slight variation to the groups song writing this time around, with Anthems Of Rebellion clearly showcasing their most diverse, heaviest, and at times most melodic music they’ve released to date.
Shades of fl metal within ‘Saints And Sinners’ are evident, while still maintaining the Amott melodic aspect of their song writing, and draw the album to its dramatic finale.

The 'extreme' factor is a bit less on this album, and I say this only because I relate color scematics of album covers and artwork with the music they play (the album cover here looks less 'extreme metal'ish than Wages of Sin in my humble opinion).
Nevertheless, Anthems of Rebelliion is still a definate success, not a force to be reckoned with nor a waste of time.

Every now and then there comes an album that changes and redefines the standards within a certain genre, "Wages Of Sin" did just that and also proved that women could prove themselves within the vocal aspects of extreme music.
Angela’s performance is more controlled this time, I think she’s more comfortable and more involved, not only does she scream her lyrics out in the most convincing fashion but also let’s out some hellish growls when most appropriate.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that "Anthems Of Rebellion" is among the best albums this year, with songwriting, instrumentation and sound quality peaking at the highest, Arch Enemy can proudly sit back, enjoy their success and bask in their metal glory.

In a completely unexpected turn of events, Arch Enemy have followed-up the brilliant Wages of Sin with arguably their weakest platter to date.
No joke, Anthems of Rebellion reeks of amateur riffs, a suspicious stench of commerciality, and a child-like obsession with predictable E-minor progressions (low E chug chug chug, high E power chord, repeat) that makes you wonder if the band have traveled back in time and gotten their 15-year-old selves to write this thing.
And that's just the thing: It's easy to pick apart Anthems of Rebellion piece by piece because the songs - not to mention the entire album and its uneven sequencing - are so awkwardly put together that one can't help but wonder if the band constructed them at a death metal salad bar.
