		According to the Biographical Register of the New South Wales Parliament 1901-1970, Alexander Alam was born in Wallsend in 1896.
		Alam was an active member of the Labor Party being a president of that Party's Gwydir, Dubbo and Wammerawa branches.
		Alexander Alam, (7th from left with binoculas) one of the longest serving members of the NSW Legislative Council was a prominent member of the Lebanese community.

		Alexander, Harold Rupert Leofric George, first Earl Alexander of Tunis 1891-1969, field-marshal, was born in London 10 December 1891, the third son of James Alexander, fourth Earl of Caledon, and his wife, Lady Elizabeth Graham-Toler, daughter of the third Earl of Norbury.
		Alexander decided that the only success he could snatch from the jaws of unmitigated defeat was to rescue the army under his command by withdrawing it to India.
		Alexander was on the spot, even before the date at which he was officially to assume command (20 February 1943); he was seen directing the siting of gun positions at the approaches to the Kasserine pass.

		One of the entries will relate to Alexander Alam who was a long standing member of the New South Wales upper house of Parliament from the 1920s through to the 1960s and an important political figure in NSW.
		We have since received a lot of material about his wife Mrs Therese Alam (nee Anthony) which makes it clear that she was an important figure in her own right.
		She was particularly active in fostering community relations within the Maronite, Lebanese and general communities and was a tireless worker for charitable and World War II fundraising activities.

		HE claimed he was an innocent abroad, duped into running heroin from Bali to Australia, but Brisbane man Scott Anthony Rush has clocked up an extensive criminal history in his short adult life.
		Rush and fellow Bali Nine drug mule Renae Lawrence were yesterday each sentenced to life in a Bali prison for their roles in the smuggling operation.
		A police spokesman, Anton Bachrul Alam, said: "We are happy with the deliverance of death sentence because it will clearly give shock therapy and we hope executions can be carried out as soon as possible."
