John Burgess Wilson was born on February 25, 1917 in Harpurhey, a northeastern quarter of Manchester, to a Catholic father and a Catholic convert mother.
Anthony Burgess, known in Argentina as the British Borges, and Jorge Luis Borges, known in Britain as the Argentine Burgess, each spoke both English and Spanish fluently.
