		Meyer's German Jewish grandfather, Carl Frederick Meyer, migrated to Britain in the late 19th century, when he worked for the Rothschilds, and later for De Beers; he eventually became Governor of the National Bank of Egypt and was given a hereditary baronetcy for the large donations he made to found a National Theatre in Britain.
		Anthony Meyer was educated at Eton, like his father, and he inherited the baronetcy at the age of 15 when his father died in a hunting accident.
