Pellicano and six associates were named in a 110-count federal racketeering indictment unsealed today in Los Angeles.
According to prosecutors, Pellicano, 61, used contacts in the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments and at the phone company to illegally wiretap phones as well as to gain access to the confidential National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
Charged along with Pellicano is Mark Arneson, a former LAPD officer, who allegedly was paid to tap into the NCIC system, and Rayford Earl Turner, a retired phone company worker who helped facilitate the bugging operation.

Private investigator Anthony Pellicano, who pleaded guilty last year to felony weapons charges related to hand grenades and plastic explosives that were found at his West Hollywood offices, was sentenced today to 30 months in federal prison.
Pellicano also pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing military-grade plastic explosive, known as Composition-4 or C-4, that did not contain a detection agent as required by law.
While Pellicano requested a sentence of 27 months under federal sentencing guidelines, Judge Tevrizian cited the dangerous nature of the C-4 possessed by Pellicano in imposing the higher sentence.

Tomorrow, either Pellicano or Gruel might  file discovery motions to find evidence that 2002 allegations of Pellicano being involved in a conspiracy to extort  former Los Angeles Times reporter Anita Busch were used by the FBI as a subterfuge to obtain a search warrant to enter Pellicano’s West Hollywood offices.
According to Pellicano’s side, the allegedly corrupted warrant allowed agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation– who reportedly were miffed that Pellicano may had early wiretapped one of their own -- to seize what Pellicano believes they were really after: computer hardware that was in Pellicano’s office.
