  Miroslav Antic
The ofher is Miroslav Antic (1932-1986), a lyrical poet with his specific vision of the old, flat panonian Serbian Vojvodina, a province where he was born.
Exuberantly temperamental as he was ANTIC' also used to impressively retire his poetry to the interested public gathered in numerous centres of European and universal spiritual and cultural heritage.
ANTIC was different from the great European metaphysical writers who preferred the isolation of a hofel room because he used to turn the big geographic maps of the world into his own, luxurious, lyrical working space.

  Interpol: Antics (2004): Reviews
Antics is so much more fun than Turn On The Bright Lights.
Antics is a very strong record that is home to a number of truly incredible songs.
On Antics, Interpol is less indebted to its influences, creating a distinct sound from the distinguishing characteristics that drew those comparisons in the first place.

 ANTIC Instruction Set
ANTIC takes up extra CPU time on the first scan line(s) of any text mode, but no extra time on the rest of the scan lines or during any plain graphics mode.
This is probably because the first time on a text line, it must fetch both characters and font data for each byte, but for the rest of the scan lines it uses cached screen data.
The color data ANTIC sends to CTIA/GTIA in normal color modes is not the same as the pixel values stored in the screen data area.

Antics reveals a warmer more energised band who are not afraid to venture out into the sunshine for a bit.
The trouble with Antics is that it tries to be too many things at once, thus losing the focus of TOTBL which made it so fascinating.

Flying through the first few songs of ‘Antics’, swooping under the huge, gleaming choruses, you’re struck by the muscularity of Interpol’s music.
‘Antics’ is a record inspired by, written and bloodily-birthed on the hot tarmac that flows smoothly beneath a rock band’s tour bus.
Whereas ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’ was bloated with the ambling musical luxuries of an unsigned band in their basement, ‘Antics’ has a lean and urgent physique that can only be produced by merciless schedules and the detached grind of touring.

Interpol: Antics: Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Antics exudes a preceding aura of heaviness-- even the packaging is heavy; the album's cryptic liner notes consist of little more than stark grayscale photos and epigrammatic Morse code spelling out bits of song titles ("Length", "Narc", "Cruise", "Exit", respectively).
Similarly, Antics casts off the weight of advance hype, stewing anticipation, and unreasonable expectations, and wisely distinguises itself as a strong collection of singles rather than as an immaculately cohesive album.
Antics shows Interpol shedding the weight of their accumulated baggage and (hopefully) staying a while.

Juliet Fleming: "Response to Margreta de Grazia's 'Hamlet's Thoughts and Antics'"
And finally, as de Grazia has repeatedly shown, it is an interpretative method that relies at times on starkly anachronistic assumptions about the material conditions, social codes, and representational practices of English life at the turn of the seventeenth century.
"Hamlet's Thoughts and Antics" thus suggests, pace Coleridge and others, that in their moment Shakespeare's plays were concerned less with character than with plot -- which is to say that one could imagine the play without the Prince, but not the Prince without the play.
For if the character of Hamlet as the man who thinks is the precipitate of a plot that will have him delay, the plot of delay is ITSELF the instrument and consequence of a dramaturgical interest in the deployment and infraction of genre.

The Crutch Music Review: Interpol - Antics
While the songs on Antics are all of a piece with the grand, piercing sweep of Bright Lights, the biggest change on it are Banks’s vocals: they’re more crisply enunciated, sung with more melodic inflection, and both of these are positive changes.
But in contrast to the dim murk of Bright Lights, Antics is much more brightly produced and translucent, and so the lyrics, often obscured on the last record, and more immediately discernible on this one.
Like the Postal Service, the words soon sink into the sonorous cadences of the music and become unobtrusive, and the music is engaging enough you smile and grit your teeth until they subside.

Interpol Antics Album Review - SoundsXP
No, ‘Antics’ is a progression: the sound of a band exploring their collective ability, pushing their perceived boundaries and growing out of their influences and becoming one themselves.
Whilst there is more melody on this album and slightly more colour it would be still be folly to claim that it’s accessible and mainstream friendly, ‘Antics’ is a record which takes listens to unravel itself and make all of its wonderful nuances known to you.
What it does see is a band who are not just the only act to emerge from the glut of ‘The’ bands with any credibility and imagination, but it also sees a band establishing themselves as America’s best and most important band.

village voice > music > Interpol's Antics by Mikael Wood
Yet as Fred Durst once opined, a chocolate starfish is nothing without hot-dog-flavored water, and what makes Antics such an improvement over Bright Lights is how capable Interpol have become at complementing Banks's lovely ambiguity with an increasingly precise post-punk throb.
Antics is pretty slow for a Nü York indie-rock record, but it doesn't drag.
And "A Time to Be So Small" justifies the Cure comparisons lobbed at the band, evoking a bottomless melancholy with one of those descending minor-key chord changes Robert Smith writes to keep himself in oversize dress shirts.

Amazon.com: Antics [ENHANCED]: Music   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
While the lyrics are kind of iffy, the music and "vibe" of "Antics" is a sign that Interpol might be on a lot of "Best of 2004" lists by the end of the year.
"Antics" shows that Interpol is one of the few bands out there today who know how to stay focused on a particular sound and grow within that sound without becoming self-derivative.
As a follow-up to the band's impressive debut, "Antics" might be ever-so-slightly less adventurous, but it is a more focused, confident sound that has a playfully seductive edge to it.

The ANTIC and GTIA do not do interlacing, so each frame is identical unless the program which is being executed changes the display.
The primary function of the ANTIC chip is to fetch data from memory (independent of the microprocessor) for display on the TV screen.
Each instruction defines the type (alpha character or memory map), and the resolution (size of bits on the screen), and the location of the data in memory which is to be displayed on the next group of lines.

Legassie: “The Mosque-Crashing Antics of Pero Tafur, Fifteenth-Century Knight”
Anticipating the cross-dressing antics of Richard Burton by some four centuries, Pero Tafur’s transgressive appropriation of Muslim sacred space is as puzzling as it is provocative.
This essay explores the complexities of Pero Tafur’s narration of his mosque-crashing antics, particularly the manner in which it reconstitutes his attempt to conceal his identity as a Christian as a prestige-grabbing assertion of his identity as a knight.

The album-craft behind this sophomore effort is remarkable; Antics cleverly nods to their previous efforts (“A Time to Be So Small” is a handily revamped demo from years ago) and keeps intact Interpol’s singular melodic prowess, while both tightening its songwriting and making unpredictable shifts in instrumental emphasis.
A fool would complain that “Next Exit” has the same pace and opening weight as “Untitled.” But a wiser man would easily spot “Next Exit” as the prefacing statement of a greater modus operandi, that is: Interpol want it completely clear that they’re not about to toss their greatest strengths in the garbage.
And Paul Banks’s voice is both stronger and more versatile throughout Antics than it was in its comparatively subdued role in Turn on the Bright Lights.

There are some who love it and others who don’t understand the enthusiasm; still more have expressed the sentiment that Interpol’s live performances hint at a kind of musical energy that they leave at the door when they enter the studio.
Their sophomore effort Antics has therefore been the subject of a hype of sorts.
Interpol are clearly an example of that breed of band who make just enough waves with their first album to get a significant push behind the second (much like the Lost Prophets earlier this year).
