BBC - Coventry and Warwickshire Music - Antihero appear at the Colly
And again, and again until, one day, I realised that Antihero are among the most talented bands I have ever seen and deserve to have their name in lights and nubile young assistants to hand them red and yellow MandMs at will.
Antihero are set to be massive for they are magnificent, filled with verve, genius and a wicked sense of wit and humour that sets them apart from their contemporaries and you can see for yourself when they support Reuben at the Colly on 31 January.
Antihero's brand of rock/pop/punk and even a little bit of RandB is unmissable and, as they make strides towards megastardom and leave us all behind, you should make a special effort to catch them at the Colly.

RPGamer - Editorials - Role of a True Antihero
But to be a true antihero and not just wishy-washy, the protagonist has to fail to meet those criteria by a large margin, in certain ways more than others, while still being likable by the reader.
An effective antihero does the wrong things, for the wrong reasons, but in a way that is just right enough to make the reader not hate him.
The antihero is a powerful writing tool, and can be used to tell amazing stories with unique messages that could never work in an epic tale, but it's not something that can be taken lightly, or easily thrown around.

SPACE.com -- Captain Marvel: Hero, Antihero, or Villain?
The concept of "antihero" is notoriously vague - the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines one only as "a protagonist or notable figure who is conspicuously lacking in heroic qualities." As all-encompassing as that definition is, the Punisher (and now Genis) certainly fits into that category.
That's the biggest problem with antiheroes: the less their actions partake in any "heroic qualities," the more they start looking like villains.
It's probably a bit precipitous for me to bring any of this up when issue #15, which may shift the entire paradigm of this discussion, is hitting the stands today - but seeing as Marvel's blurb for the issue states that he's threatening the Shi'ar and the Kree with total extermination, I somehow doubt it.

RPGamer - Editorials - Antihero Versus Hero
Just like heroes, antiheroes come in many forms, the dark swordsman, the swashbuckling pirate, and the dashing thief could all be antiheroes.
An antihero will do all the things a hero will, save the kidnapped princess, slay the evil dragon, and all those other "heroic" things.
However he will use different methods, here is an example, a hero might postpone a battle because an area is crowded with innocent bystanders, but an antihero would just toss a grenade into the crowd and hope he got the bad guy.

The Antihero will happily kill off his 'allies' or innocent bystanders, lie, manipulate, or backstab as long as doing so does not cross their particular moral code.
Kuonji's failure at the close of UnS is one of the triggers that start his change from Antihero to Flawed Hero; it not only proves his methods wrong, but indeed makes his persona dramatically impossible.
The Antihero is generally an amoral person secure in their own code and unbothered by their own evil.

Let us be clear about this - Antihero are quite possibly the finest British rock band of the moment.
The full-on hardcore assault is sometimes interrupted by electro flourishes, such as the interlude mid-way through the record, or the sampled intro to 'You Got Nothing'.
Occasionally, Antihero reveal their sensitive side, as on 'Why do you Look so Scared?', a song which details the pain of one-way love, with a heartfelt acapella middle eight.

JS Online: 'Rescue Me' hotter than just its great antihero
If there were an Emmy award for Most Conflicted Antihero, Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) of "Rescue Me" could give even Tony S. of "The Sopranos" a run for his money.
Tommy is a New York City firefighter with a drinking problem, an anger-management issue, an ex-wife who's on the lam with his kids, a pregnant girlfriend, a hostile brother, a jerk of a father and a gang of former buddies who are disgusted with him, and not without reason.
Disgusted with everything and everyone, he has requested and received a transfer to a firehouse in Staten Island, where, to his further disgust, a modest car fire is the week's highlight.

The plotline is simple: Travis directs his frustrated anger at the street dwellers of New York and a presidential candidate, and his unhinging assault is paired with an attempt to rescue a young prostitute, Iris (Jodie Foster), from her predatory pimp.
However, Bickle’s antiheroic character is more directly related to a failure of a capitalist system that pits his working-class position as a cab driver against those who have already been disenfranchised according to socioeconomic class, gender, and/or race.
In actuality, what he does is stitch together a postmodern antiheroic identity that is nostalgic and pop culture-oriented, evidenced by the Mohawk haircut that he sports in the penultimate sequences — because he possesses no internal self.

For the former, Zelazny's protagonist tend to be a little on the antihero side - esp. Jack of Shadows.
And of course, there is "Alice in Wonderland," lots of tales from "The Arabian Nights," like "Aladdin," the limping soldier in the Grimm's fairy tale of "The Twelve Princesses," etc., etc. Look under the nearest mushroom cap and you'll find them.

The antihero of the twentieth century in Western theater also suffers, but his journey often leaves his world in greater chaos.
Over the last century, the archetypical antihero is by no means a static character.
He begins benignly in the work of Shaw, and early Brecht, deflating hypocritical verities and challenging the status quo in more of an antic than dramatic fashion.

The popularity of HBO's "The Sopranos" may be influencing more than just more violence on television.
With the character of Tony Soprano, deliciously played by James Gandolfini, a new type of TV character has started to emerge -- the antihero, a character perhaps a little more flawed and complex than you average TV caricature.
During Tuesday's (July 24) introduction of the new CBS fall drama "The Guardian" at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, CA, David Hollander, the show's creator, introduced the lead character of the show as an antihero, saying he didn't want to make him too "good."

village voice > film > The Punisher by Benjamin Strong
An amateur light opera of payback based loosely on a Marvel Comics icon, The Punisher earns faint praise where it can find it: As Frank Castle, ex-G-man turned mob-exterminating vigilante, Tom Jane notably improves on Dolph Lundgren's 1989 straight-to-video interpretation.
Lundgren's Castle brooded woodenly underneath falling forelocks, but Jane plays the gothy antihero as straight man, beleaguered not so much by his own demons (murdered family, Wild Turkey) as by a series of cartoon assassins.
In the film's best scene, Castle suffers a Looney Tunes beating from the Russian, a beefy platinum giant played by WWF veteran Kevin Nash.
