Antimony and its salts may be readily detected by the orange precipitate of antimony sulphide which is produced when sulphuretted hydrogen is passed through their acid solutions, and also by the Marsh test (see Arsenic); in this latter case the fl stain produced is not soluble in bleaching powder solution.
Antimony may be estimated quantitatively by conversion into the sulphide; the precipitate obtained is dried at too° C. and heated in a current of carbon dioxide, or it may be converted into the tetroxide by nitric acid.
Antimony trifluoride, SbF 3, is obtained by dissolving the trioxide in aqueous hydrofluoric acid or by distilling antimony with mercuric fluoride.

The sulphides of lead and copper yield, the former a mixture of oxide and normal sulphate, the latter one of oxide and basic sulphate.
Sulphide of antimony, when roasted in air, is converted into a kind of alloy of sulphide and oxide; the same holds for iron, only its oxysulphide is quite readily converted into the pure oxide Fe203 by further roasting.
Sulphide of lead, when fused together with metallic iron in the proportion of 2Fe: I PbS yields a regulus (= I Pb) and a "mat" Fe 2 S, which, however, on cooling, decomposes into the ordinary sulphide FeS, and finely divided iron.

The mother waters of the kermes contain the sulphantimous acid in dissolution by the alkaline sulphide, and, this last one being treated by the acid that decomposes this sulphide, it precipitates a moisturised antimony sulphide, the one that is commonly known by the name of gold antimony gold sulphur.

 Discovery of Germanium
I realized only later that germanium really was present in the sodium sulphide solution but precipitated as the sulphide only after adding much acid, because it is considerably soluble in acid-free liquids and thus, once precipitated, could not be washed with water except with great losses or even complete disappearance (by dissolution).
Leaving the sulphur behind, germanium sulphide is dissolved, and when the solution is then strongly acidified by hydrochloric acid, a white, voluminous precipitate is obtained that cannot be mistaken for sulphur.
By adding the hydrochloric acid slowly in drops, first antimony sulphide, then arsenious sulphide are separated; after filtration, a solution is obtained from which snow-white germanium sulphide precipitates upon further, ample addition of hydrochloric acid.

When you say you can't make it, do you mean antimony sulphide or antimony metal (or both), and when you say synthetic antimony does not work well, do you specifically mean in glitter, or in any pyro composition.
OTOH, if antimony oxide cannot be reduced with carbon at temperatures attainable with charcoal and a forced air supply, I could halve the cost of my order.
For the first half (oxide ->metal) I quote Lancaster: “It is usually prepared by heating the native sulphide (stibnite) with scrap iron, or with poorer quality ores by burning off sulphur in a reverberatory furnace to produce the oxide — which is then reduced with carbon”.

Antimony Trisulfide and Realgar are more difficult to find, not that I really want to fool around with Realgar much.
I think this could be reduced with carbon, as antimony sulphide is used in a flare composition in "Das Feurwerkbuch," written in about 1400, and medieval alchemists often used metallic antimony, and they can't have made it elecrolytically.
Note that the antimony (III) sulphide used in fireworks is mainly the crushed rock stibnite and not a chemically made one.
