If the rate of movement of an antiphase pattern of movement is scaled upwards, a critical rate is reached where an abrupt phase transition occurs and the antiphase pattern changes to an inphase pattern.
It has been suggested that the loss of stability of an antiphase pattern at critical movement rates may be due to an inefficient application of cortical influences.
In two experiments, bimanual coordination was studied in a kinesthetic paradigm where one limb was moved by a computer-controlled apparatus, while the subject tried to match the movement of the driven limb with their other hand (see right).

A part of the composite video signal which is between the trailing edge of the horizontal sync and the beginning of the corresponding active video line (end of horizontal blanking).
A signal that is divided into two antiphase signals, traveling on two wires (and sometimes with a third - a ground reference wire).
The balanced system is used either when very low signals are to be transmitted over long distances (such as those generated from high quality microphones) or at broadcast audio studios for highest quality signal recreation.

 Synchronization of Metronomes
Typically, the metronomes will oscillate near this "antiphase" state for 10-20 seconds, then over the course of a minute, the system will evolve away from this to a steady state of inphase synchronization---i.e.
I found that the antiphase synchronization state can be made stable in the metronome system if the cans are placed on a wet table---i.e.
Also, antiphase synchronization and other types of synchronization are possible at larger average frequencies.

ICA Basic Effect   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
When the surrounds are present, the disks appear to alternate on and off (i.e., the disks modulate in antiphase).
At 1 Hz, there is the paradoxical impression that the disks modulate in antiphase even though they become light and dark at the same time.
The effect occurs when the surrounds are present because the luminance modulations are in phase with each other and the contrast modulations are in antiphase (see Shapiro et al, Journal of Vision, in press).

Huygens' Clocks   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The pendulums are attracted to the antiphase state, never the inphase state.
As Huygens surmised, the platform motion is the culprit: if we prevent the platform from moving, there is no synchronization at all.
Neither would the sympathy have been possible if the coupling was too weak, since the small but inevitable difference in the clock frequencies would prevent frequency locking.

Journal of Vision - First-order color vision is slow; Second-order color vision is fast, by Shapiro
When the luminance levels of the disks are modulated sinusoidally in time, the 1st-order information from the disks modulates in phase, while the 2nd-order information modulates in antiphase.
This effect is not likely to be due to luminance artifacts since the intentional addition of luminance into the chromatic modulation eliminates the antiphase appearance.
Further evidence for a fast chromatic contrast response comes from a novel experiment in which observers match the perceived modulation rate of a chromatically flickering light on a chromatic background (no contrast reversal) to the same light on a mid-white background (contrast reversal).

Surround sound loudspeakers and processor - Patent 5199075
said left and right side loudspeakers having a dipole radiation pattern whenever said side and rear output signals are applied in antiphase to said forward-facing and rearward-facing drivers respectively, and a hemispherical omnidirectional pattern whenever said side and rear signals are applied to the respective drivers in phase.
When the front and rear-facing elements 14a, 14b and 15a, 15b are driven in antiphase, however, a dipole pattern emerges, the front-facing elements 14a, 15a being in antiphase with the front loudspeaker on the same side 11, 13, respectively, and the rear-facing elements 14b, 15b being in phase therewith.
The other reason for using a phase-shifter rather than simply driving the two elements in antiphase is that many people are very sensitive to out-of-phase bass signals in separated speakers, which yields an unpleasant feeling of pressure in the head.

To obtain an interesting and useful spectrum it is essential to arrange for some process during the mixing time to transfer signals from one spin to another.
Therefore, no matter what phase correction we choose in each of the two dimensions, always one of the two signals will be dispersive and the dispersive tails always tend to obscure near-by peaks.
TOCSY is normally preferred because first, the in-phase nature of the cross-peaks in TOCSY leads to better signal-to-noise ratios than COSY where cancellation of intensity occurs in the antiphase cross-peaks and secondly, by adjusting the isotropic mixing period used in the TOCSY experiment long-range connectivity in the spin system can be observed.

Antiphase coordination was accompanied by extensive fronto-parieto-temporal activations, including the supplementary motor area (SMA), the pre-SMA, and the bilateral inferior parietal gyri, premotor cortex, and superior temporal gyri.
When contrasting polyrhythmic tapping with in-phase tapping, activity was seen in the same set of brain regions, and in the posterior cerebellum and the CMA.
Antiphase and polyrhythmic coordination may thus to a large extent use common neural control circuitry.

Microimmunofluorescence is now the reference method, with immunoglobulin G (IgG) antiphase II antibody titers greater than or equal to 200 and immunoglobulin M (IgM) antiphase II antibody titers greater than or equal to 50 indicating the presence of acute disease.
With the microimmunofluorescence test, the presence of antiphase I antibodies indicates chronic Q fever, and IgG antiphase I antibody titers greater than or equal to 800 are highly predictive of endocarditis.
Antiphase I IgG or immunoglobulin A (IgA) titers less than or equal to 200 are believed to indicate cure.

Nuclear Receptor | Full text | Diurnal difference in CAR mRNA expression
The expression of CAR mRNA throughout the circadian rhythm is reported for the first time in phase with the clock gene Bmal1 and in antiphase with the clock-controlled gene Rev-erbα mRNAs, with a peak at Zeitgeber time (ZT) 20 and a trough at ZT8, and a peak/trough ratio of 2.0.
Thus, expression of the Car gene is expected to occur in antiphase to that of the Per1 gene and in phase with the Bmal1 gene.
In contrast to the self-sustained central clock present in the brain, peripheral circadian clocks are retrained by humonal factors such as glucocorticoid hormones [27,28], as reflected in the diurnal rhythms observed for PPARα and REV-ERBα.

It is shown that the degree of segregation at the APB's is highly anisotropic and the mobility of an APB at a given temperature is strongly composition-dependent.
Despite the strong segregation anisotropy, however, it is demonstrated that the decrease in the radius of the cylindrical antiphase domain is linearly proportional to t

On the other hand, when utilizing the antiphase part of the spectrum, or by phaseinverting one channel of a stereo track creates a Big Gap(tm) in your mix, which allows you to fill the gap with your other sounds.
perhaps the antiphase that showed up in PAZ is "accidental" and not "on purpose" as i suggested earlier.
