John of Lorraine (April 9, 1498, Bar-le-Duc – May 18, 1550, Neuvy-sur-Loire) was cardinal of Lorraine, archbishop of Reims, Lyon and Narbonne, bishop of Metz, Toul, Verdun, Thérouanne, Luçon, Albi, Valence, Nantes and Agen.
John was the son of René II, Duke of Lorraine and younger brother of Antoine, Duke of Lorraine and Claude, Duke of Guise.

This stipulated that, at the death of Henry III, the Cardinal de Bourbon, Archbishop of Rouen (1520-90), the third son of Charles de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme, should be recognized as heir to the crown, "to the exclusion of all French princes of the blood at present heretics and relapsed".

Duke Antoine of Lorraine had assembled a force of knights, 30,000 strong, and lead the expedition against the Alsatian peasants; on May 16th, the city of Zabern, besieged by Duke Antoine, surrendered conditionally.
The Duke pacified the entire Alsace except for the Sundgau, where a truce was signed in June.

Lorraine would be the dominant power once Provence has ceded all it' French lands to France (nice idea that!) Clearly Lorraine was a possibility, I'm just not sure why England is. Unless of course Edward son of Henry VI is still around.
René obtained to be released in 1437 and recognized as duke of Lorraine in exchange of a marriage with Vaudéont family and territorial concessions to Burgundy.
