 Sir Antoine-Aimé Dorion - Canadian Confederation
In 1862, Antoine-Aimé Dorion resigned from both Cabinet and government in protest of the Sandfield Macdonald-Sicotte government's position on the Grand Trunk Railway.
When Alexander Mackenzie became prime minister of Canada in 1873, Antoine-Aimé Dorion agreed to be minister of justice.
Dorion was called to the bar of Lower Canada in 1842 and became a partner at Côme-Séraphin Cherrier's law practice.

Dorion, sir Antoine-Aimé, avocat, homme politique et juge (Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, Bas-Canada, 17 janv.
Après la Confédération, Dorion siège à la Chambre des communes jusqu'en 1874 et est brièvement ministre de la Justice et procureur général dans le gouvernement libéral d'Alexander MACKENZIE.
Membre de l'Assemblée de la province du Canada de 1854 à 1861 et de 1861 à 1867, Dorion devient un chef bien connu du PARTI ROUGE dans les années 1850.

Badgley, Rose, and Torrance commuted to work from homes (Weredale House, Rosemount, and Saint Antoine Hall, respectively) on the outskirts of the city or in the suburbs, but the others whose practices are surveyed in this essay lived within walking distance of their offices.
Convenience and tradition were probably reasons for that geographic concentration, but factors like an ancient rule of the local Court of Queen's Bench that set limits on the distance between advocates' chambers and the courts were apparently also relevant.

George Carlo Vidua Buchanan (1825-1901) of Monk and Buchanan articled first with admiralty specialist Henry Black in Quebec City, secondly with Côme-Séraphin Cherrier and Antoine-Aimé Dorion in Montreal, and finally with Rose and Monk in the same city.
Alexander Buchanan, for example, piloted an early commission that commenced the province-wide disassembly of seigniorial land tenure, and he spearheaded the first official consolidation of Quebec statutes in the 1840s.
Huntington and Buchanan's Townships office was devoted to serving Huntington's investments in local enterprises, like the Advertiser and Eastern Townships Sentinel newspaper, Bolton Copper Mines (formally known as Huntington Mining Company), the Stanstead, Shefford and Chambly Railroad, and the Mutual Life Association.
