I recalled hearing that Antoine had somehow managed to acquire the very last 5 available anywhere, and I seemed to remember that only two, one in pink gold and one in white gold, were actually left.
The “small automaton” Daniel Roth was referring to is, of course, the mechanism that deploys and retracts the four (yes, four, not two!) triangles used to indicate the minutes on a 180° scale.
Like most other Daniel Roth watches with in-house complications, the Papillon’s movement is based on a Girard Perregaux 3000 calibre base, to which several layers have been added to provide the jump hour function and the minute indicator mechanism.

As Antoine doesn't tell Blanche that he knows Louis or Louis that he's found Blanche (and lies to Christine about all of it, pretending he's off to meet with clients whenever he has a pressing interaction with Blanche), he's soon entangled in a network of fabrications of the French farcical sort.

One night, Antoine (Daniel Auteuil), the affable headwaiter of a swank Parisian restaurant, saves a sad sack named Louis, who's just been dumped by his girlfriend, from killing himself.
Not only does he put up the hangdog Louis at the apartment Antoine shares with his girlfriend, Christine (Marilyne Canto), he also lands him a gig as a sommelier at his restaurant -- a job that the bumbling Louis is woefully unqualified for (and something the movie milks its fair share of laughs from).
Antoine and Blanche's immediate chemistry spills into their separate lives, threatening to founder Antoine's relationship with Christine, not to mention the still-pining Louis' mental stability.
