Anton HEISSERER was born on Apr 26, 1810 in Schirrhein, Alsace, France.
Anton and many of the immigrants worked as lumberjacks during the winter months, cutting timber on one of the islands in the Mississippi River near Cape Girardeau to fuel the boats going up the river to St. Louis.
Anton and his son John are memorialized on the American Immigrant Wall of Honor (Panel 189) at Ellis Island that was erected1992.

Burger King should be applauded for having the guts to stand up in this politically correct age and tell this misguided young biblebasher "Sorry, we can't employ you because you won't work Sundays".
Anyway, they should be able to discriminate if they want to, and say things like "Christians, Hindus, lesbians, one-legged Sri Lankans and Chatham Islanders need not apply" in their job adverts if that's the way they feel.
It might upset people and put them off working for BK or eating BK burgers, but it's their job.
The information about AntonBurger is drawn from the web page, "Scott County, Missouri Queries,"at www.rootsweb.com/~moscott/query004.htm.
Anton and Theresa Burger settled near Kelso, Scott County, Missouri.
John Maurath wrote an e-mail to me in Sep-2002, and added that AntonBurger went to Canada first before moving on to Cape Girardeau and Scotty County, Missouri.
Burger (no picture available), who acted as commandant from July 1943 until February 1944, was ordered by Himmler and Eichmann to change the appearance of Theresienstadt.
The truth was that Eppstein was far removed from any such involvement, regardless the fact that such action would of course have been illegal.
Another probable reason for his arrest and death may well have been his involvement in arguments between SS officers Moehs, Burger, and Rahm.
Lynn S from Reflections in d minor takes issue with this post where I said employers should be free to employ or not employ whoever they like, because it’s their job to give or not give.
She agrees that Burger King should be free to not employ people who won't work on Sundays, and that
I'll be laughing all the way to the full heat control this winter and firing up the generator when nanny state's supporters sit cold in the dark.

The ghetto was under the jurisdiction of the "Zentralstelle für jüdische Auswanderung" in Prague which in turn reported to the Reichssicherheitshauptamt (RSHA).
Guarded by Czech gendarmes, the ghetto was run by the SS and commanded by Austrians Siegfried Seidl (November 1941 to July 1943), AntonBurger (July 1943 to February 1944) and Karl Rahm (February 1944 to May 1945).
People in the ghetto lived in constant fear of deportation to one of the extermination camps Treblinka, Auschwitz or Maly Trostinec.

London Underground did not issue a warning against running on the platforms "if you are carrying a rucksack, wearing a big coat or look a bit foreign".
Only one of the news items mentioned in the 2004 Darwin Awards meme turns out to be true (a 22 year old burger flipper in Virginia did indeed tie together several bungee ropes before jumping off a 70 ft bridge, failing to measure the now longer than 70 ft bungee rope).
The London Metropolitan Police do not issue travel warnings by e-mail.
