His two brothers Franc (born 1885) and Ivan (born 1894) were murdered in Kozlerjeva gošča (The Kozler 's grounds) on November 25 1943 together with 12 victims by the of Slovene home guard under the command Franc Frakelj.

The Anton Melik Geographical Institute was founded in 1946 by the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and in 1976 it was named after the greatest Slovenian geographer, academician Anton Melik (1890-1966), who was the first head of the Institute.
Since 1981, the Institute has been one of the constituent members of the Scientific research centre of the Slovenian academy of sciences and arts.
