W 1828 Kraszewski otrzymał po raz pierwszy mandat deputowanego na sejm prowincjonalny.
Kraszewski działał także przy tworzeniu Towarzystwa Pomocy Naukowej i wszedł w skład jego pierwszej dyrekcji oraz był członkiem specjalnej komisji reorganizującej wielkopolskie towarzystwa rolnicze (1842) i przewodniczącym towarzystwa rolniczego w Inowrocławiu (1845).
XIX wieku Kraszewski był - obok Macieja Mielżyńskiego i Gustawa Potworowskiego - jednym z przywódców stronnictwa "matadorów poznańskich", zwolenników legalnej opozycji wobec rządu.

In 1833 together with Antoni Helcel and Konstanty Swidzinski, he prepared a "Memorandum to three courts un the defense of Jagiellonian University", where he suggested free election of professors by the University Board but was against political liberalism.
In the same year he received a duke Adam Czartoryski's emissary, Jozef Swirski.
