	Biography
		Anthonis Mor van Dashorst, also called Antonio Moro, Netherlandish portrait painter, a pupil of Jan van Scorel in his native Utrecht.
		His work shows little variation throughout his career; sitters are shown life-size or a little larger, half, three-quarter-, or full-length, turned slightly to the side, with an air of unruffled dignity.
		Mor had great influence on the development of royal and aristocratic portraiture, particularly in Spain, where his ceremonious but austere style ideally suited the rigorous etiquette of the court.

	Alonzo Coello Sánchez
		In 1552 he accompanied him to Lisbon when Mor was sent by Charles V to paint the portraits of the royal family, and Sánchez then entered into the service of Don Juan of Portugal, who had married Joanna, the daughter of Charles and the sister of Philip II.
		On the death of the Infante Don Juan, his widow recommended her painter to her brother Philip, and as Mor had just left the Court and retired to Brussels, Philip II appointed Coello pintor de cámara.
		He was one of the earliest of the Spanish court portrait-painters, and as his work was in great demand he became a rich man. He painted Gregory XIII and Sixtus V, many of the grandees of Spain, Cardinal Farnese, and the Dukes of Florence and Savoy.

		It has been gravely suggested, but on insufficient evidence, that one of the masterpieces of the Prado gallery, the portrait of the unknown young Cardinal, hitherto attributed to Rafael, and regarded as one of his noblest works, should be credited to Mor.
		At about this time Mor married, but we know little of his wife, save that her name was Metgen, and she is supposed to have been a widow.
		The last document that refers to him was one issued at Antwerp, in 1573, and we obtain the of his death from certain documents still extant in the church of Notre Dame in that city.
