Antz required a score that was filled with action, romance, drama, and yes, dancing.
In Antz we have a nice piano theme for Z, and romantic theme for Princess Bala, a dark military theme for Mandible, and a whimsical theme for the Colony itself.
All in all, the Antz soundtrack runs a very solid 53 minutes long, and should be in everyone's collection - especially if they saw the film.

To them it is an unknown, colorful and gigantic place and to most of them it is limited to the dark and gloomy interiors of their hive.
One of the challenges of "Antz" was to create an organic world from the eyes of an ant, always keeping the camera a fifth of an inch above the ground.
With the ingenious foresight and visionary decision to create this film and then putting it out in such a splendid DVD rendition, Dreamworks are sure to take their place in the hearts of many fans of animated movies all over the world.

Antz explores age-old topics (one person--err, insect--can make a difference, individuality and social responsibility must exist side by side, war is hell) with comic asides and Woody Allen's funniest quips this side of PG (adults will chuckle at the socialist slogans bandied about as he campaigns for workers' rights).
Antz is about a worker called Z who is a ant and is destined to find a happy home, until he hears about the mythical "Insectopia" then him and Princess Bala go off to find Insectopia to see if it real or not...
'Antz' is the first 'bug movie' to arrive on the big screen; rivaled a year later by Dreamworks, Disney/Pixar in the form of 'A Bugs Life', a brighter and more colourful film, arguably the better of the two.

 Movie Review: antz
He tells his therapist (in an attempt to get in touch with his inner maggot) that he hates his job, he has feelings of abandonment (which he attributes to being the middle child in a family of five million), and he feels completely out of step with everyone else.
Z (voiced by Woody Allen), or Z-4195 to give him his full title, is a worker ant, and spends every day with his fellow workers digging (and complaining) the Megatunnel, a grand project which will transform the life of the ant colony (or so they have been told).
However, Antz is far more complex and darker than Toy Story - producing cuddly merchandise spin-offs was definitely not top of the agenda for the makers of this movie.

Antz, which had its world premiere on September 19, 1998 as the Closing Gala Selection for the 23rd annual Toronto International Film Festival, is a very good movie, no matter how you look at it.
Antz follows the adventures of Z-4195 (Z for short), a neurotic worker ant whose voice is appropriately provided by Woody Allen.
Most children aren't going to understand Z's comment that a better alternative to war with the termites might be to "try influencing their political process with campaign contributions," but almost every adult in the theater will get a hearty laugh out of such an observation.

The PG-rated "Antz" is filtered through the sensibilities of Woody Allen, and is more or less an adult comedy from an ant's point of view.

Antz Movie Review by Anthony Leong
Allen re-wrote his lines to reflect the typical neurotic stammer that his fans have come to know and love, and the animation of his character beautifully captures his distinctive gestures and body language.
The fairly predictable script, with a consummate romantic-comedy framework at its core, is punched up by several 'Allen-isms' and playfully satirizes the machinations of class struggle and the modern world of work.
"Antz" is an outstanding achievement in animation that is backed up by a surprisingly adult-oriented script that is certain to have appeal for Woody Allen fans.

A marvelously crafted, technologically amazing and downright fun tale, "Antz" is a film that should appeal to adults as much as, and perhaps more than, to their kids.
Something of a combination of "Metropolis" and "Logan's Run" with elements of the 1950's nuclear paranoia film, "Them!" thrown in, "Antz" is a visual delight with the potential to appeal to generations of moviegoers.
From its amazing special effects, to its strong story and nicely developed characters, "Antz" may have a few slow moments and many kids might be oblivious to much of the material, but those are only minor complaints.

"Antz" is the story of Z (voiced by Woody Allen), a disgruntled worker ant who gripes about his feelings of insignificance while shoveling clods of dirt.
Our whiny hero Z is, however, a nonconformist and finds himself at the crux of an extraordinary series of events after meeting Princess Bala (Sharon Stone) when she sneaks out of the palace to slum it on the town.
"Antz "is no exception, and in fact the most engaging point in the film is when Z and Bala head out in search of Insectopia, navigating the hazards of fly swatters, water droplets and gum-caked shoes.
