Anya Gallaccio (born 1963) is a Scottish artist.
Gallaccio was born in Paisley and studied at Kingston Polytechnic and Goldsmiths College.
Other works by Gallaccio include Stroke (1993) in which benches in the gallery and cardboard panels attached to the walls were covered in chocolate and Because Nothing has Changed (2000), a bronze sculpture of a tree adorned with porcelain apples.

One of the things that has always separated Anya Gallaccio from her Brit-pack contemporaries is her celebration of organic processes.
In one corner, leaning against a wall, was a tiny bronze cast of a twig with berries; nearby, on the floor, were several life-size bronze casts of lima beans and their shells; in the back room were several cast-bronze potatoes, replete with sprouts.
The overall strength of the exhibition (as is the case with most Gallaccio shows) was the experience of having one's olfactory, aural and visual senses stimulated all at once.

On the contrary, to accelerate the process of dissolution, Gallaccio threw in "a time bomb"—a large lump of rock salt—which worked its way down, leaving a void in the center of the block.
Gallaccio likened the salt both to a heart and to a cancer: "one destroys and the other makes things live." Life, death and transformation; these may be the dominant themes in her work—the rose petals turn brown, "like scabs," exposing the thorns underneath, the chocolate blooms with mold-but they do not explain it.
Gallaccio has recalled that as a child she enjoyed looking at "Amazing But True" books in which you had to imaging how big things were.

Gallaccio, a contender for the Turner Prize a couple of years ago, is showing new, site-specific work and a selection of earlier pieces.
The rhythms of the suite of rooms where Gallaccio's works are being exhibited vary in size, from small to expansive; there is no easy flow-through; and their atmosphere changes with the architectural detail, from floor (sometimes marble, sometimes wood) to ceiling (from coffered to barrel-vaulted).
The most successful piece in the show - insofar as Gallaccio seems at last to have solved the problem of architecture vs art - is the delightful "Falling from Grace", which consists of strings strung vertically from floor to ceiling on to which apples have been threaded - Tuscan apples, we assume and hope.
