The Damned - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Damned were not generally respected at this point, having been accused by punks of being opportunists and poseurs, and by the wider public of being one hit wonders.
The Damned's first single "New Rose" remains a classic of early punk rock, described by one critic as "deathless anthem of nuclear-strength romantic angst untroubled by bad vibes." [1] It is a cheaply-recorded, but catchy and well-crafted pop song, 'punk' mostly in its volume and breakneck delivery.
The Damned are also generally regarded as one of the founders of gothic rock.

The Black Album (The Damned) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Black Album was the fourth album by The Damned.
It was released in the US with the exact markings of The Beatles White Album but reversed in black with The Damned in the lettering space where The Beatles was on The White Album.
First released as a double album with side 4 containing 6 live tracks recorded at Shepperton.

 TrouserPress.com :: Damned
Noted for being the very first British punk band to issue an album (Stiff Records' first LP) as well as the first to tour America, the Damned hold a special position in history, if not always in music.
Damned Damned Damned was a major groundbreaker, a stripped-down punk album of high-speed songs filled with raunchy guitar rock and equally aggressive sentiments.
The Damned's lineup of Vanian, Rat, Roman Jugg (the guitarist/keyboardist who joined in 1981) and Bryn Merrick (bass) lasted from 1984 until 1987, and stability proved deleterious to the band's creativity.

Easily my favourite album of all time, shame the live tracks don't appear to have made it to the cd, buy this and live shepperton 1980 and enjoy.
Quite why the damned aren't as popular as some of their peers is beyond me.
They have some incredible work on this album.

 Damned Strawberries
After the experimental "Black Album", The Damned Move into pop rock territory with Strawberries.
I Love this album, Generals, Ignite, Gun Fury, The Pleasure and the Pain, solid Damned songs.
The progression on from the equally excellent "Black Album" is obvious (though you couldn't predict the blandness that what would happened next with Phantasmagoria).

The Damned: album reviews and ratings
Overall this is a solid and diverse Damned album that would please many different audiences, but I'm sure that The Damned are capable of putting together an effort that would be appreciated a lot more by the Darkwave audience if they would readopt more fully their mid 80's style.
Patricia Morrison (ex Gun Club and Sisters of Mercy) joined the band on this album, but her presence is hardly felt as the bass lines simply merged into the overall Damned scheme.
This album holds a wide variety of songs that covers the different musical styles that The Damned experienced in their career.

 Amazon.co.uk: Music: Grave Disorder
This album follows seamlessly in the foot steps of the classic "black album" and "Strawberries", yet with a new modern style without abandoning the shear energy which is The Damned.
Having listening to the Damned ever since their first single (New Rose 1976) I was surprised last year when this album was released.
The Damned, after all the false dawns over the last 14 years are truly back, now I can forget the truly awful "Jack and the Beanstalk".

The Damned Discography, Biography and Links at Mr Bill's IRS Records Corner
THE BLACK ALBUM was the first Damned LP to have a US release and they toured in the US in support of it, primarily in the big cities, where the punk movement this side of the Atlantic was in full swing.
Paul Grey soon replaced "Algy" on bass and The Damned once again toured the US and found their first American-released LP, THE BLACK ALBUM, on IRS.
This Damned fine LP (pun intended, to borrow a line from IRS) came at a time when The Damned were experiencing moderate chart success in their homeland.

Have any of you heard the new Damned album?
Location: London, UK Local Time: 08:48 AM The Damned were primarily a 70's band though, though their commercial success was in the 80's with songs like Grimly Fiendish and their version of Eloise, itself a No.2 hit for Barry Ryan in 1968.
I saw The Damned once in 1983 at a gig in Brockwell Park - they were introduced by Radio 1 DJ John Peel.

Hellride Music - Exodus - Tempo of the Damned
Originally written with original vocalist Paul Baloff (who died before the album could be recorded) and completed with second vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza, Tempo of the Damned is the result of a band taking stock of their strengths and focusing on them, discarding anything that might slow them down.
EXODUS' first studio album since 1992's "Force of Habit", "Tempo of the Damned" is due out in Europe on February 2 (the two-year anniversary of late EXODUS frontman Paul Baloff's passing) and in the U.S. on March 9 through Nuclear Blast Records.
And their career was pretty much laid to waste when they released Force of Habit, an album that saw them, along with pretty much all the other thrash greats of that time, desperately trying to follow the path Metallica made with their black album.

 The Damned - Nitro Records!
The new CD has been compared to The Damned’s best, including Machine Gun Etiquette and the Black Album, but that’s pale praise.
Yes, The Damned were the first to publish a punk rock single, the first punk band to tour the States and influencers of countless other bands.
The album ends poignantly with Monty Oxy Moron’s trailing piano notes finishing the haunting epilogue of “Beauty and the Beast,” Vanian’s tender ode to the horror legends of a time gone by.

Y (1979), one of the most intense, touching and vibrant albums in the history of rock music, was the outcome of the Pop Group's quest for a catastrophic balance between primitivism and futurism: the new wave's futuristic ambitions got transformed into a regression to prehistoric barbarism.
A-Z (1980), the first solo album by Wire's keyboardist Colin Newman (10), expanded on those ideas with an apocalyptic cycle of menacing dirges, and achieved a demented intensity that was the musical equivalent of expressionism.

Punknews.org The Damned - Grave Disorder
From the speedy, catchy punk of "Damned Damned Damned" to the amazing masterpeice "Machine Gun Ettequette" and on to more gothic albums like "The Black Album", The Damned has always stayed fresh, original and always a blast to listen to and see live.
So, after a prolonged hiatus from acutally recording (1985 till 2001), The Damned released "Grave Disorder" in 2001, which seemed to be a double whammy of older bands releasing new albums for Nitro (T.S.O.L.'s first album in 20 years was released at almost the exact same time).
Unlike most "new" albums from older bands on long hiatus, this album really feels as passionate (if not more so) than their earlier efforts, a real album and one of their best in fact.

THE DAMNED IN GRAVE DISORDER (Guitar News Weekly #157, August 28, 2001 - (c) GuitarSite.com)
The Damned was the first British punk band to release an album, as well as the first to cross the Atlantic and tour the United States.
The Damned is all of that, but also a band that continues to evolve - still drawing its old fans while courting the new; pounding out punk rock standards, but writing music for the new century.
Punk was always about rebelliousness--for The Damned, it is progressiveness and ability to change that makes the band's career endure and keep true to its punk rock roots.
