Pictures of the African clawless otter|Aonyx capensis facts
An African Clawless Otter (Aonyx capensis) is also called by the name "Groot otter" and has partly webbed and clawless feet (hence its name), and it is in fact the second biggest freshwater kind of otter.
Although the Cape clawless otter (Aonyx capensis) is still widespread in the Western Cape, the population in the Cape Peninsula is probably small.
The clawless otter (Aonyx capensis) is also found in the Masarinko Bolon but as with the manatee it is shy and difficult to observe.

 [No title]
The genus Aonyx Lesson was exclusively based on the so-called clawless otter of the Cape region of South Africa (Lutra capensis Schinz, renamed Aonyx delalandi by Lesson), of which the genus Anahyster Murray, based on a clawless otter from Old Calabar, is a synonym.
Externally the Aonyx capensis group is distinguishable by its color pattern, its size, and by its foot structure, from all other otters, and especially from the Asiatic forms that have been referred to Aonyx.
In Aonyx the antorbital portion of the skull is heavily developed, being broad, with large incisors and canines, while the carnassials and molars are only moderately developed in proportion to the size of the skull; all these conditions are reversed in Micraonyx.

Otter Specialist Group by Aktion Fischotterschutz e.V.
Abstract: The distribution and status of the Congo clawless otter (Aonyx congicus) has yet to be assessed in the rainforests of central Africa where the species is said to occur.
Aonyx congica is very often found in the literature, however, A. congicus is now considered the correct spelling.
Sympatric areas are also suspected in Garamba (both Aonyx species have been found in the park and skins of both species are labelled from areas near the park in the Tervuren museum), and in Cameroon, which hosts both savannah and forest biomes.

Claus Reuther (2003, in litt.) confirmed that " because we now have good phylogenetic evidence from DNA sequences (Koepfli and Wayne 1998 and Koepfli and Wayne 2003) that Aonyx and Amblonyx are sister species, Amblonyx cinereus should be transferred to the genus Aonyx (thus, Aonyx cinereus).
