  DESPERADO -- Apache Kid
The Kid and his band, increased to about thirty, rode for the Mexican border and en route stole a herd of horses from the Atchley Ranch near Table Mountain, killed a trapper, Bill Diehl, in his cabin, and tortured and murdered rancher Mike Grace as the desperados moved southward.
The kid insisted that he was innocent of the Diehl and Grace killings, that others in his band had done the deeds.
After six of the Kid's band were captured and two were hanged (the other four committed suicide by strangling each other with their loin cloths while in their cell the morning before the execution), the Kid went on a murder rampage, killing several settlers.

Southern New Mexico Travel and Tourism Information: The Apache Kid
It was during Kid's eighth enlistment in the scouts, which began April 11, 1887, that he found himself in a situation that would lead to a court-martial, imprisonment, a civil trial, a new sentence, escape, and life as a fugitive.
Kid had been left in charge of both the scouts and the jail, but before he and the scouts could get to the camp where the tiswin was flowing freely, two men were dead.
Kid and his scouts arrived at San Carlos on June 1, 1887, and found that neither Sieber nor Pierce was in a mood to deal generously with them.

 Massai & Apache Kid
The Apaches took every means possible to defend their lands from encroachment, and it was not long before they had a reputation as the most fierce tribe in the entire Southwest.
Kid was one of many who suspected Rip had put Gon-zizzie up to killing his father, and tribal law, which carried with it the mandate of a religious duty, required a son to exact blood vengeance for his father’s death.
Colonel Kosterlitsky of the Mexican rurales declared the Kid to be the leader of a small settlement of well-behaved Apaches, renegades from the United States, in the Sierra Madres in Chihuahua.

Apaches as an ethnic group were credited, a century ago, with an uncanny ability to disappear, seemingly, into thin air.
But the Kid believed another Apache, a longtime enemy of his father, was responsible and took a group of scouts to hunt the man down and kill him.
The Kid and others initially were court-martialed and sentenced to life in prison, but the matter later was turned over to civil courts, which found him and three others guilty of attempted murder of Sieber.

The Apache Kid - Outlaw Legend of the Southwest
In May, 1887 the Apache Kid was left in charge of the Indian Scouts and guardhouse at San Carlos when Captain Pierce and Al Sieber, an anglo scout, were both gone on business.
Causing an outrage among the citizens of the area, a new warrant was issued in October, 1889 in Gila County for the re-arrest of the freed Apaches for assault to commit murder in the wounding of Al Sieber.
At the trial on October 25, 1889, four Apaches including the Apache Kid were found guilty and sentenced to seven years in the Territorial Prison at Yuma.

Apache Skies #2 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
The book opens with the Rawhide Kid caught up in a gunfight that he wanted to prevent, as the new Apache Kid went and gunned down the man who had killed her husband.
After the Rawhide Kid manages to take down all six law officers who were set off after the Apache Kid killed the man they had been hired to protect, we see him team-up with the Apache Kid as they get the heck out of town.
Still, when I see the sheer effectiveness of the page where the new Apache Kid riddles the dead body of her husband's killer with bullets, or the chilling look at the group of killers that will be pursuing them, I find myself wishing that his work was earning more acclaim.

However, the second gunslinger leaves the Rawhide Kid in a bad way after shooting the railway man's son while the Rawhide Kid was attempting to back out of the highly charged situation peaceful like.
Now most of this information is a history lesson on the Apache Kid, to let us know why the Rawhide Kid would come looking for the men who gunned him down, but there's also enough here that one can see that he was a good man who was shot in the back by a coward.
I also enjoyed the idea that this second party leaves the Rawhide Kid standing on very shaky ground, as after the man stepped forward to give this second party a hand, he finds his offer is simply used by this person to leave him holding the bag while they make their escape.
